Mō te tūranga | About the role

Join our Core Tribe as a Technical Consultant and help shape the Entitlements layer by building the Entitlements engine needed to migrate legacy functions and enable modernisation that powers ASB's digital experiences.

As a Technical Consultant, you will act as both a hands-on architect and a strategic leader, you will guide teams, make key technical decisions, and help define solutions that deliver real value for our customers.

You’ll tackle complex, enterprise-scale challenges, working closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams. Your leadership will uplift best practices, foster innovation, and ensure our technology strategy aligns with business goals.

We advocate for T-Shaped teams, where you will engage in all facets of engineering throughout your day. We are seeking a Technical Consultant with a diverse mix of technical skills to support the following activities:

• Provide technical leadership for the entitlement’s solution, applying ASB’s established platform, integration, and architectural patterns to deliver scalable outcomes.
• Develop and implement technology strategies that align with business objectives
• Guide and mentor engineering teams, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.Guide implementation using shared SDKs, infrastructure standards, and CI/CD practices, ensuring alignment with security and compliance requirements.
• Work closely with API, integration, and streaming platform teams to design resilient service interactions and meet agreed service levels.
• Evaluate and de-risk emerging technologies, run pilots with clear success criteria and guide adoption across squads.
• Lead delivery of reusable integration components and reference architectures, provide hands-on guidance for complex implementations.
• Engage stakeholders (product, security, ops) to balance velocity with safety, communicate trade-offs and decisions clearly.

You're a proactive problem solver with strong technical leadership and communication skills. You're confident gathering requirements, designing pragmatic solutions, and presenting technical concepts to diverse audiences.

What You Bring

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

Experience

• 15+ years in software engineering, architecture and leadership.
• Proven leadership and decision-making skills, with a track record of successful project delivery. 5+ years in solution architecture

• .NET / C# including ASP.NET APIs
• PowerShell and Azure CLI
• NoSQL/Graph DB (Neo4j)
• Database engineering

• Azure and cloud-native development
• Azure DevOps and GitHub for CI/CD

• Docker, Kubernetes, AKS or similar
• API Gateways such as Kong
• Event streaming tools such as Apache Kafka

• REST APIs using OpenAPI or Swagger
• SDK and library development
• Agile delivery and user story refinement
• Strong technical documentation skills
