Job Description
The CNC Programmer / Machinist is responsible for machine programming, tooling design and fabrication, process verification, and training staff for setup and running of CNC mills and lathes to meet company production goals. This role requires in-depth knowledge of CNC machines, CAD & CAM programming, tools, dies and fixtures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Follow company safety procedures and embrace a culture of safety within the machine shop and the organization as a whole
- Programs 3, 4, and 5 Axis machining centers.
- Programs multi-turret and multi-spindle turning centers with live tooling.
- Ability to learn how to program robot arms to load/unload machining centers.
- Optimize machine operations for high-throughput production runs.
- Modifies existing macros and creates new custom macros to reduce cycle time.
- Drives and supports quick and efficient setups (SMED) through programing architecture, tooling selection, fixture design, and setup kitting and instructions.
- Collaborates with Design Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to improve measurement practices by helping to identify and define features, tolerances, measurement frequency, and gaging opportunities.
- Trains Leads, Set Up Techs, and Operators on new programs and processes.
- Performs typical machine shop operations to support machining floor.
- Identify and report defective parts, materials or questionable conditions to manager.
- Identifies and implements operational improvements.
- Qualifies new programs and processes through validation production runs.
- Designs, fabricates, and qualifies fixtures (soft jaws).
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and safe manner.
- Participate as a team member and working to continually improve all aspects of our business.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and work instructions.
- Completes tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules with minimum supervision.
- Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
- In depth knowledge of best practices in safety for CNC machines and robotics.
- Proficient in CAM programming.
- Proficient in manual writing and editing of G-Code.
- Solid understanding of macros.
- Competent in CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
- Highly detail oriented.
- Self-starter with excellent time management.
- Familiarity with FANUC controls a plus.
- High school diploma or GED
- 3+ years’ experience as a CNC Programmer/Machinist
- Knowledge and ability to use gauges, calipers and other measuring tools.
- Ability to work efficiently to meet production goals.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Stand, sit, walk and reach for long periods of time.
- Repetitive hand and wrist motions while handling large and small parts.
- Constantly and repetitively assembly products, use of light machinery.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach above and below desk level, talk, hear and communicate accurate information.
- Observe details at a close range.
- Moves items and products weighing up to 30 pounds across short distances.
- Easily move from place to place in a manufacturing facility.
- Adhere to all safety & quality requirements.
- Ability to pass pre-employment & random drug screenings.
