Embedded Software Engineer
Pittsburgh, PA
Up to $140K + Equity
STEM OPT and TN Visas only
My client is a VC backed start up who builds AI-native, deep learning inspection systems for continuous manufacturing.
They offer vertical-specific solutions for roll-to-roll web inspection, truss manufacturing, DTF printing, and high-performance narrow fabrics. The inspection systems perform in high-variability, multi-SKU environments, catching defects in real time to reduce waste, rework, and inspection labor.
Built in Pittsburgh, PA, we deliver end-to-end deployment and operator-first workflows with responsive, on-site support. Our mission is simple: make American manufacturers more profitable.
We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer with 2-5 years of experience to help scale our edge deployment platform for inline manufacturing inspection. You'll be the "rubber meets the road" engineer — taking our proven AI-powered inspection system and making it reliable, scalable, and deployable anywhere in the world without heavy on-site support. This is a high-ownership role on a small, gritty team solving real problems for Fortune 500 manufacturers. If you're tired of building demos and want to ship software that runs in real production environments on factory floors, this is for you.
Requirements:
- 2 - 5 years of experience in embedded/edge software engineering, primarily in Python and C/ C++
- Experience in high- stakes domains (med device, robotics, industrial, manufacturing) where failures have real consequences
- Deployed software on edge devices in production (not just prototypes — real customer environments with reliability constraints)
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Proficient in Python and comfortable with C/C++ for embedded/edge systems
- Experience with networking, data streaming, and handling diverse customer network environments
- Familiarity with ML inference serving, GPU optimization, or machine vision systems
- Located in or willing to relocate to Pittsburgh, PA; 5 days/week on- site required
- Willing to travel to customer sites 1- 2 times per quarter
What will you be doing?
- Building resilient edge software that reliably streams high-throughput image data through edge GPUs and runs inference services in diverse customer network environments
- Engineering deployment and configuration systems so the platform can be shipped in a box, installed on a production line anywhere in the world, and work flawlessly without heavy on-site support
- Improving reliability, observability, and recoverability of unattended services running 24/7 on factory floors
- Partnering with ML engineers to integrate and accelerate models on edge hardware
- Troubleshooting issues in the field during occasional on-site visits (1-2 trips per quarter) and feeding learnings back into more robust software
This role offers the opportunity to join a company on a Series A trajectory while solving high-impact engineering challenges from their Pittsburgh headquarters. If this sounds like you apply today!
