Principal Engineering Architect


Location: Hybrid Grapevine

Department: R&D


Introduction


Stelvio are working with a client seeking a Principal Engineering Architect to provide technical leadership across a complex embedded product ecosystem.

The role suits a hands-on systems thinker who understands how hardware, firmware, application software, cloud services, data, and product requirements interact throughout the product lifecycle. You will shape scalable architectures, guide engineering decisions, and help improve product reliability, performance, maintainability, and speed to market.


Responsibilities

  • Define end-to-end architecture across embedded devices, hardware, firmware, applications, gateways, APIs, backend services, data flows, diagnostics, and monitoring.
  • Design system workflows, interface contracts, communication flows, boot processes, fault handling, and recovery strategies.
  • Architect OTA update capabilities covering versioning, validation, staged deployment, rollback, fallback, integrity verification, and safe recovery.
  • Develop and review embedded C/C++ code, APIs, integration patterns, and technical implementations.
  • Design real-time embedded systems using RTOS concepts, state machines, task scheduling, event-driven development, and timing-aware architecture.
  • Lead technical and code reviews while mentoring engineers and establishing architectural standards.
  • Work across Hardware, Firmware, Software, Cloud, Data, Test, Product, and Operations teams.
  • Improve test automation, simulation, emulation, diagnostics, release readiness, and deployment processes.
  • Support hardware/software integration, root-cause analysis, system troubleshooting, and defect resolution.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to support engineering, debugging, documentation, architecture research, and test planning.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
  • At least eight years of embedded systems or embedded software development experience.
  • At least two years leading embedded architecture, major feature design, platform design, or end-to-end embedded systems initiatives.
  • Advanced embedded C/C++ programming skills.
  • Strong firmware development experience within RTOS and real-time environments.
  • Demonstrated hardware/software integration and low-level debugging expertise.
  • Experience owning embedded components from initial concept through production.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication abilities.
  • Experience with Renesas, MSP430, Nordic, or similar microcontroller platforms is preferred.
  • Knowledge of I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Bluetooth, OBD-II, GSM, LTE, CDMA, or RS485 is preferred.
  • Exposure to Python, Java, or C# for tooling, automation, or system integration is preferred.
  • Experience in regulated, safety-sensitive, or hardware-focused environments is preferred.
