Technical FinOps Engineer

We're looking for a Technical FinOps Engineer to join our SaaS P&L team and help shape the future of cloud cost optimisation at TechnologyOne.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while driving measurable business outcomes. Working across AWS and Azure, you'll design and build the tooling, automation, and engineering practices that enable our teams to optimise cloud spend at scale.

As a Technical FinOps Engineer, you'll bridge cloud engineering, software development and financial operations, embedding cost awareness into the engineering lifecycle and ensuring our cloud platforms remain efficient, scalable and sustainable as we continue to grow.

What you'll be doing…

• Design and implement cost-efficient cloud architectures across AWS and Azure while maintaining performance, reliability and scalability.
  

• Lead technical cost optimisation initiatives including rightsizing, auto-scaling, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans and workload optimisation.
  

• Build automation and tooling to improve cloud cost visibility, allocation and governance across engineering teams.
  

• Develop cloud cost data pipelines and analytics capabilities using AWS, Azure and FinOps standards to provide actionable insights.
  

• Design and maintain engineering solutions for anomaly detection, cost reporting and proactive cloud spend monitoring.
  

• Partner with architects, platform engineers and product teams to identify and deliver high-impact optimisation opportunities.
  

• Review Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) changes to ensure cost considerations are embedded before deployment.
  

• Deliver engineering solutions that optimise AI and LLM workloads, improving performance while reducing infrastructure costs.
  

• Promote FinOps best practices by embedding cost awareness alongside reliability, security and operational excellence.
  

• Collaborate with engineering, product, finance and architecture teams to translate technical optimisation into measurable business value.
  

Your Talents…

• Proven experience in cloud engineering, software development or cloud architecture, with exposure to FinOps or cloud cost management.
  

• Strong hands-on experience designing and optimising solutions across AWS and Azure.
  

• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as Terraform, CloudFormation or Bicep.
  

• Strong programming and data engineering skills, particularly with Python and SQL.
  

• Experience working with cloud billing, telemetry and cost management tools.
  

• Solid understanding of cloud pricing models including Reserved Instances, Savings Plans and consumption-based services.
  

• Knowledge of FinOps principles and cloud financial management practices.
  

• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity and software delivery.
  

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, finance, architecture and product teams.
  

• A collaborative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
