Indexed description

We're partnering with a globally recognised British audio engineering brand to appoint a Software Engineer (DSP) into its Research & Development team.

This is a rare opportunity to develop embedded firmware running on Analog Devices SHARC DSP processors at the heart of premium streaming audio systems. Candidates with experience of other DSP platforms will also be considered.

The role

Working closely with acoustics, electronics and firmware engineers, you'll be involved from early concept through to product release, developing software that directly influences the performance and sound quality of world-class audio products.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing real-time embedded software in C for DSP-based applications
  • Developing and prototyping DSP algorithms, sometimes using MATLAB, before implementing them in C
  • Building and optimising audio signal processing pipelines
  • Writing low-level drivers for DSP and board-level peripherals
  • Bringing up DSP and digital audio circuitry on early prototype hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analysers and audio test equipment
  • Working with hardware engineers to integrate and debug new designs
  • Contributing to software architecture, processor interfaces, code reviews and technical documentation

This is a genuinely hands-on engineering role, ideal for someone who enjoys working close to the hardware and seeing their software become part of a commercial product.

What they're looking for

  • Strong commercial C/C++ experience
  • Experience developing software for DSP processors, or a strong understanding of DSP techniques such as filtering, FFTs, sample rate conversion and dynamic range control
  • Experience developing firmware for commercial electronic products
  • Strong real-time embedded systems background
  • Experience bringing up and debugging embedded hardware
  • Familiarity with Git, Jira and Agile development
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline

Experience with Analog Devices SHARC or other DSP architectures would be highly advantageous. Audio DSP experience is desirable, and a genuine interest in music or audio technology is essential.

Why join?

You'll become part of an engineering-led organisation with an outstanding reputation for innovation, craftsmanship and audio performance.

Working alongside highly experienced engineers, you'll help develop the next generation of premium audio products, solving complex technical challenges where software, electronics and acoustics come together.

If you're passionate about embedded systems and want your work to have a real impact on how people experience music, this is an exceptional opportunity.
