Business Development Representative (BDR)
Indexed description
We are hiring aggressively for a Business Development Representative (BDR/SDR) in Cambridge, ON who genuinely enjoys talking on the phone with business owners and has CRM or Lead-Gen experience.
Freedom for Founders is a Canadian M&A advisory firm built by founders for founders. This seat spends its day on the phone with entrepreneurs across every kind of industry, from manufacturing and trades to professional services, working out where they are and what they want next. Most calls start with an owner who already raised their hand. Your goal is to address their challenges, ask targeted questions that lead to a further meeting about their options, without using pressure tactics. If you like meeting new people, ask good questions, and follow up without being reminded, read on.
The Job Details
- Full-time, with the in office team in Cambridge, ON.
- Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexible hours after your first three months.
- $48,000/yr base, paid biweekly. Expected total $56,400 to $78,600/yr, uncapped above that.
- Target of 20 qualified appointments held per month, reports to the VP of Sales.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Run qualifying calls with owners who have already inquired, opening with questions about their business rather than a pitch, and book them onto advisory calls with our senior team.
- If possible complete the Sellability Score with real revenue and profit figures before the call ends, and lock the next meeting on the calendar before hanging up.
- Build and refresh B2B prospecting lists, then launch and monitor email and LinkedIn outreach campaigns off documented playbooks and locked messaging.
- Work the daily follow-up list and run stage-based sequences for founders who have gone quiet.
- Keep the CRM current: every touchpoint logged, every opportunity carrying a next task and due date.
- Handle appointment setting end to end, including same-day confirmations, day-of reminders, and pre-call packages.
Career path and growth
- Now: Business Development Representative reporting to the VP of Sales.
- Next: Sales Manager running a team of BDRs as the division expands. That seat is coming with growth, and we would rather fill it with someone who built the process than someone learning it.
- What you'll learn: how M&A advisory actually works, how buyers value a business, and how to read an owner's real timing. Most sales roles teach you a product. This one teaches you an industry.
- Skills you'll own: outbound systems, CRM architecture, AI-assisted research and prospecting, and qualification on live calls with owners.
- How it's measured: structured 90-day ramp with reviews at 30, 60, and 90 days, then ongoing against held appointments.
- Mentorship: you work directly with the VP of Sales and sit close to the senior advisory team running the deals.
Qualifications Required
- Comfortable holding real phone conversations with business owners without reading from a script.
- Ability to listen and qualify before setting a meeting.
- Follow-up discipline: no booked call slips, no opportunity sits without a next step.
- Motivated by performance pay tied to qualified outcomes.
- Legally entitled to work in Ontario, Canada.
Qualifications Preferred
- Prior work as a BDR, SDR, inside sales representative, or appointment setter.
- Demonstrated lead generation ability, meaning pipeline you built rather than pipeline you were given.
- Experience with Salesforce, GoHighLevel, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho, Zoom Info, Clay, Seamless.ai, HeyReach, or Smartlead.
- Background running signal-based outbound systems, sometimes titled GTM Engineer.
- Comfort with AI-assisted research and prospecting tools, which are part of the daily workflow here.
Compensation
- $48,000/yr base salary, paid biweekly. With uncapped appointment bonus starting at $35 per qualified appointment, climbing to $100 as monthly volume rises.
- $150 bonus the first time a booked appointment becomes a paying client.
- Expected total of $56,400 to $78,600/yr based on 20 to 26 qualified appointments held per month.
- Overtime, vacation pay on both base and bonuses, and public holiday pay per the Employment Standards Act, 2000.
- No group benefits plan at this time. Once one is introduced, this role is eligible.
