CMI is seeking a motivated and commercially focused Business Development Manager to join our sales team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sales professional with a strong background in the electrical cable industry, particularly in developing relationships with major commercial and industrial electrical contractors and driving project opportunities from specification through to supply.
In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, managing key customer relationships, supporting major electrical contractors with their electrical cable requirements, and driving sustainable sales growth across your assigned territory. About the role:
Reporting to the Sales Manager, you will play a key role in pursuing major projects, developing existing accounts, identifying new business opportunities, and promoting CMI's extensive range of electrical cable products and solutions.

- Managing sales activities across Victoria by developing and executing strategic territory plans, structured customer call cycles, and maintaining an accurate customer database to maximise market coverage, customer engagement, and sales opportunities.
- Conducting face-to-face sales visits with existing customers and prospective major electrical contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders, promoting CMI's comprehensive range of electrical cable and supporting products while providing technical solutions tailored to customer specifications and project requirements.
- Actively identifying, pursue and secure major commercial, industrial, infrastructure and utility project opportunities, working closely with electrical contractors throughout the project lifecycle to support their electrical cable requirements and maximise project conversion.
- Driving business growth by developing new accounts, expanding market share, building long-term customer relationships, and consistently achieving or exceeding sales and profitability targets.
- Monitoring market conditions, competitor activity, pricing trends, customer feedback, and upcoming project opportunities to identify new avenues for growth, while preparing detailed weekly activity reports and recommendations for management.
- Managing the full sales cycle, including preparing and following up quotations, negotiating commercial outcomes, coordinating project requirements, expediting customer orders, and ensuring exceptional customer service from enquiry through to project completion.
- Working collaboratively with internal sales, customer service, operations, and product teams to ensure seamless project delivery and a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with CMI's Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) policies, procedures, and standards, maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental responsibility.
About you:
- Demonstrated product knowledge of the electrical cable industry, with experience across industrial, commercial, mining, utility and electrical wholesale markets.
- Proven success in developing relationships with major electrical contractors and securing electrical cable supply opportunities across large-scale commercial and industrial projects.
- Strong project pursuit and business development skills, with the ability to identify opportunities early, influence specifications, and convert projects into profitable sales.
- Excellent commercial acumen with strong negotiation, communication and relationship management skills.
- Ability to prioritise competing demands, manage multiple projects and achieve outcomes within specified timeframes.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate customer records, quotations and project documentation.
- Sound understanding of quality assurance, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), and environmental practices relevant to the role.
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
