Business Development Manager required to drive growth, client targeting, and strategic marketing activities for the flagship capital markets / corporate finance/securities practice of a large, respected international law firm with an award-winning culture.


This is a hybrid role based in New York City 3 days per week. Comp Circa $150-170k + Bens + Bonus


The Business Development Manager role would suit either an established Business Development Manager or an experienced Business Development Specialist ready to step into a broader, more influential position.


You will work closely with senior attorneys, marketing specialists, and practice management teams to support business development across complex transactional areas: capital markets, private equity, corporate finance, securities, and debt finance.


Key skills required for the Business Development Manager – Capital Markets


5–8+ years of experience in business development, client relationship management, marketing, or practice development.


A background within a law firm, professional services organization, consultancy, investment bank, financial institution, or related financial services environment.


Experience supporting transactional practices or markets such as:


* Capital markets

* Private equity or private capital

* Corporate finance and corporate transactions

* Securities

* Mergers and acquisitions

* Debt finance or private credit

* Structured finance

* Financial institutions

* Real estate

* Investment funds

* A working understanding of debt, equity, high-yield, and other capital markets transactions.

* Knowledge of relevant target audiences, including issuers, underwriters, asset managers, private equity firms, direct lenders, investment banks, and corporate borrowers.

* Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic business development plans.

* Strong proposal, pitch, and RFP writing skills, with the ability to translate complex services into clear and compelling messaging.

* Confidence working with senior stakeholders and advising partners or other senior professionals on their individual business development priorities.

* Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and consistently deliver high-quality work.

* Experience using CRM platforms, analytics tools, marketing technologies, and pitch-tracking systems.

* A proactive, highly organized, and commercially minded approach.

* Excellent written, presentation, internal stakeholder, and client-facing communication skills.


What you’ll do as a Business Development Manager – Capital Markets


* Lead day-to-day business development and client-targeting activity for the capital markets practice.

* Work closely with senior attorneys to develop and deliver individual and practice-wide growth plans.

* Identify target clients, new business opportunities, market developments, and opportunities to strengthen existing relationships.

* Develop core practice messaging, value propositions, and campaigns tailored to specific transactional and capital markets audiences.

* Maintain high-quality credentials, pitch materials, capability statements, and other marketing collateral.

* Manage customized pitches and proposal processes from initial briefing through submission, presentation, follow-up, and review.

* Coordinate client, prospect, industry, and competitor research in partnership with internal research teams.

* Produce responses to requests for proposals, requests for information, and other formal procurement exercises.

* Support pitch meetings through briefing documents, presentation materials, visual aids, and client-specific messaging.

* Maintain accurate matter and transaction information within internal databases.

* Coordinate submissions to league tables, legal directories, and industry recognition programs.

* Identify and manage profile-building opportunities, including speaking engagements, conferences, sponsorships, events, and thought leadership campaigns.

* Track proposals and pitches, analyze outcomes, and report on progress by client, sector, opportunity, and service line.

* Manage project timelines, stakeholder communications, and deliverables across multiple concurrent initiatives.

* Explore emerging business development and marketing technologies that could improve efficiency, insight, and client engagement.
