Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Business Development Manager to drive commercial growth across service, maintenance, and systems projects. This role focuses on identifying and converting new commercial accounts, expanding preventative maintenance and building automation offerings, and leading proposal development and negotiations. The ideal candidate combines technical knowledge of HVAC systems and controls with proven sales and CRM experience to build a strong pipeline and deliver sustainable revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute territory and account growth strategies to meet revenue and profitability targets in commercial HVAC, service, and facilities sectors.
- Prospect, qualify, and convert new business opportunities through cold outreach, referrals, networking, and lead generation campaigns.
- Manage the full sales cycle: discovery, needs analysis, solutions design, proposal preparation, pricing, contract negotiation, and close.
- Promote and sell preventative maintenance agreements, service contracts, and building automation/control system upgrades.
- Collaborate with operations, project managers, and service teams to ensure proposals are feasible, accurately scoped, and profitable.
- Maintain and update pipeline and customer records in CRM (HubSpot and/or Salesforce), track activity, and produce regular forecasts and sales reports.
- Develop compelling proposals, presentations, and ROI analyses tailored to facility managers, building owners, and C-suite stakeholders.
- Attend industry events, trade shows, and site visits to generate leads and strengthen customer relationships.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify new product and service opportunities.
- Coach and coordinate with internal teams on sales process best practices, handoffs to operations, and post-sale service delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, Mechanical Systems, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- 5+ years of business development or outside sales experience focused on commercial HVAC, facilities services, or building automation.
- Proven track record of generating leads, closing service and project contracts, and meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, building automation, preventative maintenance, and service workflows.
- Experience preparing technical proposals, scopes of work, and commercial contracts.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (HubSpot and/or Salesforce) and familiarity with lead generation and pipeline management tools.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills with facility managers, property owners, and general contractors.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into clear value propositions and ROI for customers.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple accounts and opportunities simultaneously.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel frequently within assigned territory.
- Certifications such as NATE, EPA 608, or HVAC controls training are a plus.
- Familiarity with commercial service operations software and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace.
