Company Description Jim Whitehead's Best One Tire & Service is a family-owned and operated tire and service business providing wholesale, retail, and commercial medium truck tires, as well as retread manufacturing. The company also offers light truck and passenger tires, light mechanical work, and OTR (off-the-road) tires and service. Known for personal, friendly customer service and a first-rate service department, the company emphasizes reliability and quality in every interaction. Team members support customers across multiple locations in Augusta, Georgia; Columbia, South Carolina; and a retail-only location in Evans, Georgia.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Business Development Manager role based in Columbia, SC. The Business Development Manager will identify and pursue new commercial and retail tire and service opportunities, build and maintain strong relationships with fleet managers, business owners, and other key decision-makers, and expand market presence in the region. Day-to-day responsibilities include prospecting and cold outreach, conducting customer needs assessments, preparing proposals and quotes, and coordinating with the service and operations teams to ensure timely, high-quality delivery. The role includes tracking sales performance, analyzing market trends, attending industry and community events, and providing regular reports and forecasts to leadership. The Business Development Manager will also collaborate on pricing, promotions, and strategic initiatives to drive sustainable growth while maintaining the company’s reputation for excellent customer service.
Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong business development, sales, and account management skills, with experience in B2B or commercial environments, ideally within automotive, tire, or related industries.
  • Candidates should possess skills in relationship building, customer service, and negotiation to effectively engage customers and secure long-term partnerships.
  • Candidates should possess skills in market research, opportunity analysis, and strategic planning to identify growth opportunities and support data-informed decisions.
  • Candidates should possess skills in communication, presentation, and basic computer proficiency (CRM systems, email, spreadsheets) to manage pipelines and report on activity.
  • Relevant qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred), a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel locally to customer sites.
  • Beneficial experience includes prior work in tire sales, automotive service, fleet management, or industrial products, as well as familiarity with commercial and OTR tire products and services.
  • Successful candidates demonstrate self-motivation, goal orientation, and the ability to work collaboratively with service and operations teams in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
