Business Development Manager

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts | Full-Time | On-site

Move beyond the bench. Stay at the forefront of science.

You've spent years developing scientific expertise, solving complex research challenges and contributing to innovative discoveries. Now you're looking for a career where you can use that knowledge in a broader, more strategic way—without losing touch with the science that inspires you.

This is an opportunity to transition into a role at the intersection of cutting-edge biotechnology and business development, where you'll work alongside leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies to help accelerate drug discovery and therapeutic innovation.

Instead of running experiments, you'll be partnering with scientists, understanding their research challenges and connecting them with technologies that make a real difference to their work.

Why this role?

This position is ideal for PhD scientists or postdoctoral researchers who want to:

  • Move beyond the laboratory while continuing to engage with world-class science.
  • Develop commercial and strategic business skills in a fast-growing biotechnology environment.
  • Build relationships with leading researchers and decision-makers across biotech and pharmaceutical organisations.
  • Gain exposure to innovative technologies spanning antibody discovery, immuno-oncology, gene engineering and preclinical drug development.
  • Make a tangible impact on the development of tomorrow's medicines.

What you'll do

As a Business Development Manager, you'll become a trusted scientific partner to researchers across the life sciences industry.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing an in-depth understanding of our discovery platforms, products and services.
  • Engaging with scientists, biotech companies and pharmaceutical organisations to understand their research objectives and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Building trusted, long-term relationships by translating complex scientific challenges into tailored research solutions.
  • Managing business opportunities from initial conversations through to negotiation and contract completion.
  • Representing the company at scientific conferences, networking events and industry exhibitions.
  • Working closely with Marketing to increase awareness of our technologies and strengthen our presence within the life sciences community.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for someone who combines scientific credibility with curiosity, strong communication skills and a genuine interest in the commercial side of biotechnology.

You'll have:

  • A PhD in Life Sciences, Bioscience, Immunology or a related discipline.
  • In vivo experience
  • A passion for innovative biopharmaceutical research and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The confidence to discuss complex scientific concepts with researchers and industry leaders.
  • A desire to learn about business development, strategic partnerships and commercial science.
  • Willingness to travel for customer meetings, conferences and industry events.

Previous business development experience is advantageous but not essential. We're equally interested in scientists who are excited to build a career outside the laboratory and can combine technical expertise with a consultative approach.

What you'll gain

This role offers far more than a traditional business development position.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Remain immersed in cutting-edge scientific innovation every day.
  • Work with many of the world's leading biotech and pharmaceutical organisations.
  • Build commercial expertise while continuing to use your scientific knowledge and analytical thinking.
  • Receive ongoing training, mentorship and excellent opportunities for career progression.
  • Develop a highly transferable skill set spanning science, business strategy, relationship management and biotechnology.

Ready to take your scientific career in a new direction?

If you're passionate about science but ready to make a broader impact beyond the laboratory, we'd love to hear from you. Join a team where your scientific expertise is valued, your commercial skills will grow, and you'll help shape the future of biotechnology.
