Position Overview

Douglas Sales Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced, motivated, and highly organized Business Development Manager to join our team.


This individual will manage multiple vendor partners and customer accounts throughout the NY Metro market. The role will oversee vendor business from start to finish, including customer relationships, sales growth, new item presentations, promotional planning, pricing, contract execution, and ongoing account management.


The Business Development Manager will work directly with leading and emerging CPG brands while building relationships with key retail and wholesale customers. Assigned accounts will include Wakefern, Key Food, Allegiance Retail Services, King Kullen, Nassau Candy, Associated, and other customers throughout the market.


The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing a high volume of vendors, projects, deadlines, and customer requests in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple vendor partners and serve as their primary point of contact across assigned customer accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers, category managers, distributors, and other key decision-makers.
  • Develop and execute vendor and account-specific strategies designed to increase sales, distribution, and overall market presence.
  • Identify growth opportunities and present new items, promotional programs, and business initiatives to customers.
  • Manage new item submissions, pricing, contracts, product information, samples, presentations, and customer follow-up.
  • Develop and coordinate promotional and marketing programs within approved financial guidelines.
  • Monitor sales, distribution, pricing, promotional performance, and competitive activity.
  • Use sales and market data to identify opportunities and provide clear recommendations to vendors and customers.
  • Maintain frequent communication with vendor partners regarding business performance, customer activity, opportunities, and potential challenges.
  • Coordinate with internal sales, administrative, customer service, and retail teams to ensure projects and commitments are completed accurately and on time.
  • Assist with purchase orders, inventory issues, deductions, pricing discrepancies, and customer service matters as needed.
  • Prepare for and attend customer meetings, category reviews, trade shows, and industry events.
  • Manage multiple priorities and changing deadlines while maintaining a high level of responsiveness, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Complete additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Experience in business development, account management, sales, buying, category management, food brokerage, or a related role within the CPG industry.
  • Experience working with grocery retailers, wholesalers, distributors, or consumer brands.
  • Strong relationship-building, negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple vendors, customer accounts, projects, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze sales and market data and translate findings into actionable business strategies.
  • Proactive, dependable, and comfortable working independently in a high-demand environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, customers, and internal team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the NY Metro market and attend occasional trade shows, customer events, and industry meetings.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Existing Wakefern or NY Metro retail experience is strongly preferred.
