Job Outline:

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving growth of the Solid-State Lighting portfolio across the UK, Nordic, and Baltic regions. This is a customer-facing role focused on identifying, developing, and converting new business opportunities while supporting strategic growth initiatives within existing accounts.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise in LED and lighting technologies with proven business development skills, working closely with Sales Account Managers and customers to secure design wins, increase market penetration, and deliver sustainable revenue growth.


What the role involves:

Business Development

  • Identify and develop new customers and new LED opportunities across the UK, Nordic, and Baltic regions.
  • Drive business development activities throughout the UK market to achieve revenue and margin growth targets.
  • Develop market penetration strategies across key industry sectors including general illumination, industrial, signage, architectural, transportation, and specialist applications.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with lighting and industrial OEMs/ EMSs, design engineers, procurement teams, and key decision-makers.
  • Create and maintain a robust sales pipeline through proactive prospecting and opportunity management.

Account Development

  • Support Sales Account Managers in identifying, qualifying, and converting LED opportunities within Futures' existing customer base.
  • Develop growth plans with strategic accounts and regional business development teams to assist in delivering increased share of wallet across target customers.
  • Work collaboratively with regional sales teams to uncover and progress new design-in and design-win opportunities.

Technical Leadership & Support

  • Provide support and product expertise on LEDs and lighting solutions across the UK, Nordic, and Baltic sales teams.
  • Support customers throughout the design cycle, from concept through to production.
  • Deliver technical product presentations, demonstrations, and training to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Act as the technical specialist for LED technologies, helping customers select the most appropriate solutions for their application requirements.

Regional Support

  • Travel throughout the Nordic and Baltic regions to support customer engagement and regional growth initiatives.
  • Spend approximately two weeks per quarter travelling within the Nordic and Baltic territories to support business development activities, customer meetings, supplier visits, and project development.
  • Represent the business at customer events, trade exhibitions, and industry forums.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong understanding of:
  • LED components and modules
  • LED lighting systems and applications
  • Optical and photometric principles
  • Thermal management
  • Drivers and power supplies
  • Ability to understand customer technical requirements and translate them into commercial LED solution opportunities.
  • Experience supporting design-in, qualification, and product selection activities.


Do you have:

Essential

  • Strong commercial awareness with a proven track record of generating and converting business opportunities.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to engage confidently with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Experience working alongside field sales teams to identify and develop opportunities.
  • Willingness to undertake regular travel throughout the UK and Northern Europe.

Desirable

  • Existing knowledge of the UK, Nordic, and Baltic lighting markets.
  • Experience working with major LED manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Understanding of lighting regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Degree or qualification in Electronics, Engineering, Lighting Technology, or a related discipline.
