Business Development Manager
Indexed description
Are you ready to put your commercial energy behind one of the UK’s most important infrastructure transitions?
I’m working with a team of industry pioneers building a category-defining clean energy infrastructure business on a mission to accelerate the decarbonisation of commercial transport across the UK. Backed by deep sector expertise and an ambitious rollout strategy, they are developing a nationwide network of low- and zero-emission energy hubs.
As part of this growth, they are hiring a high-impact Business Development Manager to drive pipeline creation, develop strategic partnerships, and own opportunities through to commercial close, with significant autonomy and influence over how the sales function evolves.
The Role:
This is a front-line, full-cycle commercial role combining outbound pipeline generation, partnership development, and deal execution.
You will:
- Create and convert pipeline with leading logistics and fleet operators
- Build and manage strategic partnerships across the ecosystem (fleet, real estate, energy, OEMs)
- Own opportunities end-to-end, from first touch through to structured deal closure
This is a high-autonomy role where you’ll have real ownership over how you approach the market, shape messaging, and build relationships.
You’ll be on the road 2–3 days per week engaging the market through conferences, trade shows, site visits, and partner meetings.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Outbound & Pipeline Creation
- Running high-volume outbound campaigns
- Booking qualified meetings with senior decision-makers
- Executing multi-channel outreach (cold calling, LinkedIn, email, events)
- Developing creative account penetration and referral strategies
Discovery, Qualification & Deal Ownership
- Leading early-stage discovery calls and qualifying opportunities
- Mapping stakeholders and building multi-threaded relationships
- Progressing opportunities through the full sales cycle to close
- Supporting commercial structuring of deals (infrastructure + energy contracts)
Partnerships & Ecosystem Development
- Identifying, securing, and managing strategic partnerships (fleet operators, landowners, developers, energy players)
- Building long-term, value-driven relationships that unlock pipeline and deployment opportunities
- Collaborating with partners on joint go-to-market initiatives
Market Presence & Strategy
- Representing the business at 12–18 major industry events annually
- Generating leads through networking, speaking, and targeted engagement
- Identifying new event, channel, and partnership opportunities
- Feeding real-time market insights back into messaging and commercial strategy
CRM & Continuous Improvement
- Maintaining structured, high-quality CRM records (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar)
- Tracking pipeline, conversion metrics, and activity performance
- Continuously refining outreach playbooks based on market feedback
What We’re Looking For:
- 4+ years in B2B sales or business development
- Proven success in outbound prospecting and full-cycle deal ownership
- Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder sales processes
- Strong track record in partnership development and relationship management
- Confident communicator, comfortable engaging senior stakeholders (C-level, procurement, operations)
- Highly self-motivated, target-driven, and metrics-focused
- CRM proficient (HubSpot, Salesforce or similar)
- Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, evolving environment
- Genuine interest in the energy transition, infrastructure, or logistics sectors
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively
What’s on Offer:
- Competitive salary aligned to experience
- Lucrative commission
- Company performance bonus up to 15%
- £5k car allowance
- Enhanced pension scheme
- Private medical, dental & life insurance
- Enhanced paternity policy
- Hybrid working with flexibility around travel and events
Why This Role?
This is not a passive sales role. It’s for someone who:
- Wants to own deals end-to-end, not just generate leads
- Thrives on activity, conversations, and market exposure
- Enjoys building partnerships and unlocking complex opportunities
- Is excited by autonomy and the opportunity to shape how sales is done
- Wants to play a hands-on role in building and evolving the company’s sales function and commercial strategy from the ground up
- Is motivated by working alongside industry pioneers on something that genuinely matters
You’ll be joining at a pivotal stage, helping define the commercial engine of a business set to play a major role in the UK’s energy transition.
If you’re commercially sharp, naturally proactive, and thrive in high-ownership, high-impact roles, this is your opportunity to make a real difference from day one.
