Business Development Analyst
Indexed description
At Svitzer, we are strengthening our global business development capabilities to accelerate commercial growth and support our ambition to build a stronger, more differentiated growth engine across regions.
We are looking for a commercially strong and analytically minded Business Development Analyst to join our Global Business Development team. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys turning market insight, customer needs and commercial opportunities into clear business cases, opportunity assessments and tangible growth initiatives.
About Svitzer
Svitzer is a leading global towage operator with 4,000+ colleagues and a fleet of 446 tugboats across 35+ countries, organised into four regions: Australia, AMEA, Europe, and Americas. We provide sustainable marine services that make ports and terminals safer, more efficient, and more climate friendly. Our strategic priorities are reflected in our innovation efforts, such as the Svitzer TRAnsverse Tug.
More about the role
You will be part of Svitzer’s Global Business Development team, which works as a co-pilot for the regions on priority growth opportunities and must-win battles. The team helps bring additional capacity, structure and commercial quality to business development projects while regional teams continue to own the local customer relationships, market context and business cases.
The role will combine market analysis, opportunity development, commercial storytelling, tender support, stakeholder alignment and selected data-enabled initiatives. You will help identify attractive ports, terminals, customers and segments, translate insights into actionable opportunity pipelines, and support the development of differentiated customer value propositions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support regions in identifying, assessing and progressing organic growth opportunities across harbour towage and terminal towage.
- Develop market and customer analyses to identify attractive ports, terminals, customers, cargo segments and growth pockets.
- Use internal and external data sources, including port-call and customer data, to build fact-based opportunity assessments.
- Support the development of opportunity pipelines, business cases, investment memos and commercial recommendations.
- Contribute to prioritisation of opportunities, including strategic fit, revenue potential, probability of success, asset requirements, returns and commercial risk.
- Act as a co-pilot for regions on selected must-win tenders and priority opportunities.
- Help improve the quality of tender submissions by strengthening customer value propositions, commercial narratives, differentiation and supporting evidence.
- Support the commercialisation of decarbonisation solutions, TRAnsverse and other differentiated Svitzer offerings.
- Work with cross-functional teams across Commercial, Finance, Operations, Fleet, Legal, Procurement and regional teams to progress opportunities from identification through decision-making and execution support.
- Help build and maintain common BDV tools, templates, pipeline governance and best-practice materials.
- Support post-mortems and lessons learned from key tenders and opportunities to improve future conversion.
- Contribute to a stronger global growth engine that supports Svitzer’s long-term revenue growth ambitions.
- Support pragmatic scoping of analytical, digital or data-enabled initiatives by helping translate business needs into clear requirements and assess scope, effort and expected impact.
We do not expect you to be an expert in every area listed below. If you have strong commercial judgement, solid analytical skills, and enjoy working hands-on with growth opportunities in an international business, we would be happy to hear from you.
Must-have
- Valid visa and work permit for Denmark; unfortunately, we are unable to provide sponsorship for this role.
- Experience from business development, strategy, commercial excellence, market analysis, consulting, corporate development, shipping, ports, logistics, infrastructure, energy or a related field.
- Very strong analytical skills and ability to turn data, market insight and customer input into clear commercial recommendations.
- Experience developing business cases, opportunity assessments, investment materials or market analyses; tender support experience is a plus.
- Ability to structure complex problems, identify the key issues, convert data into insights and communicate recommendations clearly.
- High proficiency in Excel, including structured analysis and basic financial modelling.
- Hands-on experience building dashboards and analytical reports in Power BI, including transforming data into clear, decision-ready visualisations.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership and move projects forward in a pragmatic way.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build compelling commercial narratives and customer value propositions.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to work across regions, functions and seniority levels.
- Experience from maritime, towage, ports, terminals, shipping, offshore, logistics or industrial infrastructure.
- Experience supporting tenders, customer proposals or commercial negotiations.
- Experience with market intelligence tools, port-call data, customer analytics or competitor mapping.
- Experience working with CRM, pipeline management tools or structured project governance.
- Experience building revenue, cost, return and scenario models for business cases or investment decisions.
- Experience working with Technology teams, including translating business needs into clear requirements, assessing effort estimates and constructively challenging scope or delivery assumptions.
- Experience working in a global or regional matrix organisation.
- Experience using AI tools to improve research, analysis, drafting and productivity.
- Commercially curious and motivated by growth.
- Analytical, structured and comfortable working with both data and ambiguity.
- Able to translate complex market information into simple, decision-ready messages.
- Able to build trust with stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Pragmatic and focused on creating business impact rather than producing generic analysis.
- Comfortable switching between strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
- Motivated by ownership, autonomy and continuous improvement.
- Interested in helping Svitzer build differentiated propositions that matter to customers.
