Position Overview
Our client, a growing wholesale fuel distributor, is seeking a driven Business Development Representative to expand its fuel business across the Carolinas. The ideal candidate has experience calling on independent business owners, convenience stores, fuel retailers, or similar small businesses. Fuel industry experience is preferred, or strong B2B business development with experience selling into owner-operated businesses. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys working with local business owners rather than large corporate accounts. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a growing organization with significant long-term expansion plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience (2+ years within wholesale fuel, jobber networks, or fuel distribution OR
- 2+ years of successful B2B business development or outside sales experience
- Demonstrated success in prospecting, cold calling, canvassing, networking, and developing new business opportunities
- Experience building and managing a sales pipeline from initial contact through closing
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Experience utilizing CRM software to manage sales activity and opportunities
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel throughout North Carolina and South Carolina, including occasional overnight travel
- Must currently reside within North Carolina or South Carolina (Charlotte or Western North Carolina preferred)
Preferred Experience
- Fuel, lubricant, or propane sales
- C-Store industry
- Calling on independent retailers or dealer networks
- Franchise development or sales into owner-operated businesses
Responsibilities
- Develop a new branded fuel supply business throughout the Carolinas
- Establish relationships with independent c-store owners, fuel retailers, and prospective dealer partners
- Negotiate and close long-term fuel supply agreements
- Partner with internal operations and onboarding teams to ensure customer transition following contract execution
- Monitor fuel market trends, competitive activity, and industry developments to identify opportunities
- Represent the organization at trade shows, customer events, and industry association meetings.
