Summary
You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter (Assistant Fire Chief) in the Fire and Emergency Services Department of U.S. Naval Support Activity NAVSUPPACT SOUDA BAY, Greece.
Duties
- You will serve as Assistant Fire Chief.
- You will evaluate effectiveness and establish long-term and short-term objectives.
- You will prepare and disseminate the Standard Operating Procedures used by the department for daily tasks and emergency operations.
- You will direct and control maintenance records, reports and statistical data.
- You will assist in directing the preparation of pre fire incident, emergency response, and disaster preparedness plans.
- You will evaluate subordinate supervisors or leaders and serve as review official on evaluations.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Directing incidents and operations of the Fire and Emergency Services Department involving several agencies and resources; 2) Directing and coordinating fire prevention, protection and emergency service programs; 3) Directing fire crews in extinguishment of structural and aircraft fires; and 4) Using disaster preparedness tactics to assist other military services and local authorities in domestic emergency operations. Also must possess a valid, current license as an Emergency Medical Technician listed in the National Registry (NREMT) to at least Basic Life Support level (EMT-B). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications you will be rated ineligible. Copies of Certifications MUST be submitted with your application.*** The following additional education/training is HIGHLY DESIRABLE BUT NOT REQUIRED; Associate's Degree in Fire Science, DoD Hazardous Materials Train-the-Trainer, Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course Instructor (EVOC-I), Confined Space Instructor, CFAI Accreditation Manager, and CPR Instructor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be prepared to work long arduous hours, not limited to office environments, when required. Requires work be performed at scene of emergency operations in all types of adverse conditions with possibility of extended exposure to elements. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous emergency scenes including aircraft, structural and wildland fire incidents along with exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals and radiation, confined spaces and various rescue incidents. Incumbent must be in sound physical and mental condition to perform in high stress situations. Required to maintain satisfactory physical fitness. Required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus. Must pass annual firefighters physical examination. Must be capable of analytical reasoning, sound judgment and decisiveness during highly dangerous, stressful and irregular operations involving threat to life, environment and property. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Assistant Chief of Operations duty hours are established 72 hours weekly. Most of the work is in an office setting. Additional duties may expose the incumbent to the elements or extended periods of standing. Incumbent is subject to emergency recall during off duty hours regardless of the time of day or inclement weather conditions. This commitment to duty can greatly affect the incumbents use of personal time and off duty activities in order to provide NSA Souda Bay with the appropriate level of life, environment, and property protection management authority. Incumbent must be physically capable of performing and supervising firefighting functions during adverse weather conditions, hazardous and related conditions for extended periods of time. Incumbent is required to pass an annual fitness test and physical in accordance with NFPA 1582. Incumbent must have the abilities and certification to perform instructions in all segments of the ARFF, structural firefighting, and hazardous materials response subject matter. Must be able to develop, plan and supervise the complete training program. Develop course of study, prepare lesson plans/guides, design visual aids and other training aids. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Education
No minimum education requirements for this position. Souda Bay is a location that is a without the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) support normally associated with an overseas assignment. Choosing the educational option that will be most effective for your child will be a critical decision you will have to make. Options are limited to boarding school, DOD virtual school, home school and 2 international schools. The participating International schools located on the Island of Crete are not conducive for High School Students preparing for College and most high school students attend boarding school.
