CENTERLINE - Business Development Executive
Location: Remote or Hybrid, United States
Employment Type: Full-Time
About CENTERLINE
Architecture firms manage some of the most complex projects in the world, yet much of their project administration still happens through a fragmented combination of email, file servers, spreadsheets, and disconnected point solutions.
CENTERLINE replaces that patchwork with a single, cloud-native platform built specifically around how architects work in the United States.
From design and bidding through construction administration and closeout, CENTERLINE brings project communication, documents, workflows, responsibilities, deadlines, and decision-making into one intuitive, AI-enabled environment.
Our purpose is simple: help architects spend more time practicing architecture and less time emailing about it.
CENTERLINE now supports more than 12,000 users, 1,000 projects, and over $4 billion in construction value.
The Opportunity
CENTERLINE is looking for an experienced business development professional to work directly with our founder and CEO to help architecture firms adopt a fundamentally better way to deliver projects.
This is not a conventional Sales Development Representative position.
It is not a scripted calling role, a call-center job, or a position measured primarily by the number of emails sent or calls completed. We are not looking for someone to generate loosely qualified meetings and hand them to another salesperson.
We need someone who can understand a sophisticated product, engage intelligently with architects and firm leaders, identify meaningful business problems, and create qualified opportunities through credibility and insight.
CENTERLINE is creating a new category of B2B software. Most prospective customers are not actively shopping for a platform like ours because they have accepted email, shared drives, spreadsheets, and administrative overload as part of architectural practice.
Your job will be to help them recognize that there is a better way.
What You Will Do
- Research and identify architecture firms that fit CENTERLINE’s ideal customer profile.
- Develop thoughtful, personalized outreach to firm owners, principals, operations leaders, and project architects.
- Begin credible conversations about how firms manage project communication, documents, deadlines, responsibilities, and risk.
- Conduct initial discovery and qualification conversations.
- Help prospects understand the operational and financial cost of managing projects through fragmented systems.
- Explain CENTERLINE’s value clearly without relying on generic sales language or feature lists.
- Lead product demonstrations as your industry and product knowledge develops.
- Manage qualified opportunities from initial engagement through proposal and close.
- Work directly with the founder on strategic opportunities and executive-level conversations.
- Maintain clear, accurate pipeline information and next steps.
- Help refine our sales messaging, qualification standards, demonstrations, proposals, and follow-up process.
- Share customer and market insights with the product team.
- Help transform a successful founder-led sales process into a repeatable commercial system.
What We Are Looking For
You are an experienced, thoughtful seller who knows how to earn the attention and trust of intelligent, skeptical, and highly knowledgeable buyers.
You are curious enough to learn how architecture firms operate and disciplined enough to understand the problems before presenting the solution.
You may already have experience in architecture, engineering, construction, or AEC technology. You may also come from another technical or professional market where selling requires credibility, subject-matter knowledge, and executive-level communication.
The strongest candidates will bring:
- At least five years of successful B2B sales, business development, or revenue-growth experience.
- Experience selling complex software, workflow change, professional services, or another sophisticated solution.
- A demonstrated record of communicating effectively with executive or technical buyers.
- Experience working in a startup, early-stage company, or entrepreneurial environment.
- Strong written communication and independent research skills.
- The ability to conduct meaningful discovery rather than simply deliver a pitch.
- Comfort selling a new category instead of competing through a familiar feature checklist.
- The judgment to distinguish genuine opportunities from unproductive activity.
- The ability to operate independently without extensive sales infrastructure or administrative support.
- The humility to learn from customers and the confidence to challenge established habits thoughtfully.
- A record of producing measurable results, not merely maintaining activity levels.
Experience with architectural or construction project administration is a significant advantage.
You May Be an Especially Strong Fit If
- You have sold technology to architects, engineers, contractors, or other technical professionals.
- You have worked inside an architecture, engineering, construction, or project-management organization.
- You have helped build a sales process rather than simply inheriting one.
- You have successfully sold a product that required buyers to think differently about how they worked.
- You have led a company, business unit, sales function, or entrepreneurial initiative.
- You are looking for an opportunity where your work can directly affect the trajectory and value of the company.
This Role Is Not For You If
- Your experience is primarily limited to scripted, high-volume cold calling.
- You rely heavily on automated sequences and generic outreach.
- You measure success by calls completed rather than qualified opportunities and revenue.
- You need a mature brand, established category, and fully documented sales playbook before you can succeed.
- You are uncomfortable speaking with firm owners and experienced technical professionals.
- You want to manage a sales team but no longer want to sell personally.
- You are looking for a conventional SDR position or a short stop between similar SaaS jobs.
- You believe every sales problem can be solved by increasing outreach volume.
What Success Looks Like
During your first year, success will mean:
- Developing a credible understanding of architectural project delivery and administration.
- Building relationships with architecture-firm leaders across the United States.
- Creating and managing a qualified pipeline of strong-fit opportunities.
- Conducting discovery and product demonstrations independently.
- Closing new subscription revenue.
- Reducing the founder’s involvement in routine sales activity.
- Improving the consistency and repeatability of CENTERLINE’s sales process.
- Becoming a trusted representative of CENTERLINE within the architecture community.
Compensation and Growth
CENTERLINE offers a competitive base salary with meaningful performance-based compensation.
This is an early and important commercial role with substantial opportunity for increased responsibility as the company grows.
For an exceptional candidate who demonstrates sustained performance, leadership, and long-term commitment, there is a path to meaningful equity and broader company leadership.
We are not offering equity merely for accepting the job. We are offering the possibility of ownership to someone who helps create significant, lasting company value.
How to Apply
Please submit your résumé and a brief response addressing the following:
- What is the most complex or unfamiliar product, service, or idea you have successfully sold?
- Who was the buyer, and how did you establish credibility with them?
- Describe a sales process, revenue function, or business-development effort you helped build or improve.
- How would you begin a conversation with an architecture-firm principal who believes email, shared drives, and spreadsheets are working adequately?
- Why does helping build a new category appeal to you more than joining an established SaaS sales organization?
Generic applications or automated responses are unlikely to receive any response. We are more interested in how you think, what you have built, and why this particular opportunity fits your experience.
