About The Role
Technical Sales Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and support throughout the sales process, from initial customer engagement to post-sale implementation. This role involves analyzing customer requirements, preparing technical proposals, and delivering product demonstrations. The Sr. Sales Engineer ensures that solutions are technically sound and aligned with customer needs.
Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan
We are looking for a technically strong Sales Engineer for industrial pumps and rotating equipment.
This role is not a pure sales position. The successful candidate should be able to understand customer processes, read technical documentation, discuss operating conditions, prepare technically correct offers, and support customers during project execution.
At the same time, the role requires commercial initiative: regular customer visits, development of new opportunities, follow-up of installed base, preparation of technical presentations/seminars, and active contribution to order intake growth in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
The role is approximately 60–70% technical/application engineering and 30–40% commercial sales development.
Main Responsibilities/Technical/Application Sales
- Analyze customer requests, technical specifications, data sheets, operating conditions, and tender requirements.
- Prepare technically and commercially correct offers for industrial pumps, rotating equipment, and spare parts.
- Clarify technical requirements with customers, Sulzer factories, tendering teams, engineering teams, and service teams.
- Support the technical documentation approval process between customers and Sulzer factories.
- Review customer comments to technical/commercial documents and coordinate required changes.
- Participate in technical discussions with customers, design institutes, EPCs, and end users.
- Develop regional sales in Kazakhstan and Central Asia with focus on mining, metallurgy, chemical industry, mineral fertilizers, and general industry.
- Maintain and develop relationships with existing customers.
- Search for new customers, applications, projects, and installed-base opportunities.
- Plan customer visits, technical meetings, seminars, webinars, and product presentations.
- Build opportunity pipeline and contribute to order intake growth.
- Prepare tender documentation, including work with electronic tender platforms.
- Review commercial conditions and support contract approval with customers.
- Register orders in SAP and coordinate order execution.
- Monitor delivery timelines and communicate with customers, factories, logistics, accounting, and tendering teams.
- Report activities, maintain forecasts, and provide regular updates on sales opportunities.
- Higher technical education: mechanical engineering, hydraulic engineering, process engineering, materials science, or similar.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with industrial equipment, preferably pumps, compressors, rotating equipment, process equipment, or engineered products.
- Ability to read and understand technical specifications, pump data sheets, drawings, and customer RFQs.
- Understanding of centrifugal pump principles: flow, head, efficiency, NPSH, pump curves, operating point, cavitation risk.
- Basic understanding of industrial materials: cast iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex/superduplex, elastomers, coatings.
- Experience with industrial customers in mining, metallurgy, chemical industry, oil & gas, power, water/wastewater, or general industry.
- Working professional English and fluent Russian. Kazakh is an advantage.
- Readiness for regular business trips across Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
- Strong communication skills, ability to conduct technical discussions and presentations.
- Independence, attention to detail, responsibility, stress resistance, and focus on result.
- Experience with centrifugal pumps, slurry pumps, multistage pumps, compressors, agitators, or other rotating equipment.
- Experience in mining/metallurgy or chemical industry.
- Experience with SAP/CRM or similar systems.
- Experience in international industrial companies.
- Ability to conduct technical presentations or seminars for customers.
- Knowledge of pump selection software or basic hydraulic calculations.
- You like industrial equipment and technically complex products.
- You are comfortable speaking with engineers, mechanics, maintenance teams, and plant managers.
- You prefer long-term industrial sales, not fast transactional sales.
- You can combine technical analysis with customer communication.
- You are not afraid of business trips, site visits, tenders, technical discussions, and responsibility for results.
- You want to grow in an international engineering company with strong products, technical know-how, and long-term customer relationships.
- You are looking for a purely office-based engineering role without customer visits.
- You prefer only communication and negotiations, but do not want to work with technical documentation.
- You have mainly general sales experience and limited interest in understanding industrial equipment.
- You are not comfortable with tenders, technical specifications, drawings, calculations, and detailed follow-up.
- You expect only short-cycle sales; our projects may require long-term development and technical support.
- Role in an international engineering company and one of the recognized leaders in industrial pumping and rotating equipment.
- Work with technically complex projects and major industrial customers in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
- Competitive fixed salary and annual performance bonus depending on business results and individual performance.
- Good office environment in Almaty.
- Opportunity to work with international factories, engineering teams, and technical experts.
- Long-term professional development in industrial technical sales.
