Senior Business Analyst

Role Overview

The Information Management Team at our corporate client uses industry best practices to deliver analytical platforms, data management capabilities, and business intelligence solutions that support business needs. The team works closely with business stakeholders to understand their objectives, translate requirements into practical technology solutions, and improve the efficiency and quality of services delivered to customers.

The Senior IT Business Analyst will serve as the primary liaison between international business stakeholders and technology delivery teams. This person will be responsible for understanding business needs, documenting requirements, supporting solution delivery, and helping business and technical teams maintain a shared understanding of project goals.

The ideal candidate has strong business analysis and project delivery experience within an IT environment. Experience supporting data teams, data platforms, reporting initiatives, business intelligence solutions, or data-related projects is preferred. The Business Analyst should be comfortable working with technology teams and discussing technical concepts but is not required to be a hands-on technical specialist, developer, or advanced SQL user.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, technology teams, and project team members.
  • Lead and support requirements-gathering sessions with business stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Understand business objectives, processes, challenges, and desired outcomes.
  • Translate business needs into clear, complete, and actionable business and functional requirements.
  • Develop and maintain business requirements documents, functional requirements, process flows, use cases, user stories, acceptance criteria, and related project documentation.
  • Facilitate structured walkthroughs and reviews of requirements with business stakeholders and project team members.
  • Work with business and technology teams to clarify requirements, resolve questions, and maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Evaluate business requests to determine scope, feasibility, dependencies, risks, and potential solution options.
  • Support projects involving data, reporting, business intelligence, data warehousing, or information management.
  • Work with business stakeholders to define reporting needs, business rules, data definitions, and expected outcomes.
  • Assist business and technology teams in identifying data-related issues and documenting potential solutions.
  • Support the development and refinement of project backlogs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in project planning, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demonstrations, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Support user acceptance testing by developing test scenarios, coordinating business participation, documenting results, and tracking issues through resolution.
  • Assist with change management, implementation planning, troubleshooting, and post-production support activities.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve business processes, project delivery, service quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Encourage collaboration and help establish a shared understanding of evolving business requirements and project needs.
  • Communicate project updates, risks, decisions, dependencies, and outstanding issues to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple assignments, priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines in a changing project environment.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst, IT Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, or Technical Business Analyst.
  • Experience gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing business and functional requirements.
  • Experience working with business stakeholders and technology teams.
  • Experience creating user stories, acceptance criteria, process documentation, and business requirements.
  • Experience working in an Agile, Scrum, or similar environment.


Preferred

  • Experience supporting data teams or working on data-related projects.
  • Experience with data warehousing, reporting, analytics, business intelligence, data integration, or data management initiatives.
  • General familiarity with structured data, data quality, reporting requirements, and business rules.
  • Experience with reporting or business intelligence tools such as Tableau or BusinessObjects.
  • Experience with data modeling tools such as Erwin.
  • Insurance or financial services industry experience.
  • Six Sigma certification or process-improvement experience.

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks, clients, projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Ability to appropriately balance priorities, deadlines, risks, and project deliverables.


Technical Expectations

The Senior IT Business Analyst should be comfortable working in a technology environment and collaborating with developers, data engineers, architects, quality assurance professionals, and reporting teams. The position does not require the individual to be a developer, data engineer, or advanced technical specialist.

Basic familiarity with SQL, databases, reporting systems, data warehousing, or data analysis is beneficial, but the primary emphasis of the role is business analysis, stakeholder communication, requirements management, process understanding, and successful project delivery.
