Technical Business Analyst

We are currently seeking a Technical Business Analyst. This is a fully onsite position in Frankfort, KY requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Current working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Our client is seeking a Technical Business Analyst with strong Microsoft Access, data analysis, and process-documentation experience. This individual will work closely with laboratory, IT, scientific, and business teams to document data flows, evaluate database structures, gather requirements, and improve data accuracy and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Document and map end-to-end data flows across multiple systems, from field collection and laboratory analysis through final reporting.
• Analyze and document Microsoft Access database structures, queries, relationships, and usage patterns to improve performance, accuracy, and usability.
• Partner with laboratory teams to understand data-collection processes, operational workflows, and reporting requirements.
• Gather and document business rules, functional requirements, and data needs from technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Translate business requirements into database specifications, including fields, data types, constraints, and table relationships.
• Connect business requirements to Microsoft Access database designs, queries, reports, and workflows.
• Create and maintain data dictionaries, process documentation, workflow diagrams, and data-flow maps.
• Write and interpret SQL queries within Microsoft Access, including SELECT statements, JOINs, WHERE clauses, and GROUP BY statements.
• Extract, validate, and analyze data for reporting, operational decision-making, and quality assurance.
• Use Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, pivot tables, charts, and trend analysis.
• Develop straightforward dashboards and reports in Microsoft Access or Excel.
• Identify trends, inconsistencies, and anomalies in data and communicate actionable findings.
• Collaborate with IT, scientists, laboratory personnel, and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions support regulatory and operational requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Professional experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role in a data-driven environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Access, including database design, tables, relationships, queries, forms, and reports.
• Ability to write and interpret SQL queries in Microsoft Access.
• Experience documenting technical processes, system workflows, database structures, and data flows.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data manipulation, pivot tables, charts, and reporting.
• Experience gathering and translating business requirements into technical or data-related specifications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex data processes into clear, actionable insights.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with technical teams, scientists, laboratory personnel, and business stakeholders.
• Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with environmental laboratory data, such as water-quality testing, soil analysis, or air monitoring.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations, laboratory reporting requirements, or regulated data environments.
• Experience creating dashboards or operational reports using Microsoft Access or Excel.
