Commercial Analyst

BnM is seeking a Commercial Analyst who will play a key role in supporting the commercial progression of renewable energy projects through internal stage gates and investment approvals.

This role will work closely with the Commercial Contracts Manager to co-ordinate commercial inputs across wind, solar, thermal and battery projects, and help shape investment cases for the board and shareholder review. The successful candidate will act as a critical link between commercial, development and finance teams to ensure business cases are robust, well-articulated and aligned to strategic priorities.

The Role:

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

Stage Gate and Investment Case Management

• Lead the co-ordination of commercial inputs to internal stage gate processes, ensuring documentation is complete, consistent, and submitted to agreed timelines.
• Maintain a clear pipeline of upcoming gate reviews, tracking requirements and responsibilities across the commercial function.
• Collaborate with technical, financial and legal leads to compile and review investment case materials for board and shareholder approval.
• Support post-gate action tracking and continuous improvement of the stage gate process.

Business Case Development

• Support development and appraisal of financial models, including base case, sensitivities and risk scenarios for renewable energy projects.
• Assist in the drafting and refinement of commercial narratives, aligning business cases to wider strategic goals and market context.

Cross-Functional & Shareholder Engagement

• Work closely with project teams to ensure alignment across disciplines and prepare for key decision-making forums.
• Assist in planning and co-ordination of interactions with external shareholders, including preparation of briefing packs, commercial inputs and issue tracking.

Commercial Participation in Projects

• Attend and contribute to project team meetings during the commercial phase, providing timely updates and ensuring commercial issues are raised and addressed.
• Maintain clear records of commercial risks, dependencies and assumptions within the project governance framework.

Market Intelligence & Insight

• Conduct ad hoc research and analysis to support commercial positioning and competitiveness of projects.
• Track relevant policy, market and pricing developments to inform investment case assumptions.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge, and attributes:

Qualifications:

• Degree in Business, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
• 2 to 3 years’ experience in a commercial, financial or strategic role, preferably in the energy, infrastructure or capital project sectors.
• Demonstrated experience working on investment cases or stage gate-type processes is highly desirable.
• Highly organised with a methodical approach to managing deadlines and documentation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
• Commercially astute with an interest in energy transition and infrastructure development.
• Proactive, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a dynamic project-based environment.

• Additional qualifications (e.g., CFA, ACA, CIMA) are advantageous but not essential.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with experience reviewing or building financial models.
