  • Geelong office location, with flexible hybrid working
  • Offering a competitive starting base salary of $136,500 plus super and benefits

Care in Action

With a career at the TAC, you’ll be helping us look out for the lives of everyone who travels on Victoria’s roads. That’s care in action.

Find out more about our shared purpose, and what drives every one of us.

Right now, we’re seeking two Data Engineers who will play their part in this shared purpose, while also supporting the progress of clients and colleagues so they can achieve great things. That’s truly rewarding work that will help us continue to deliver life-critical services where it matters.

About the role

As a Data Engineer, you’ll design, build and optimise modern, scalable data pipelines and Databricks‑based solutions that enable high‑quality insights across the TAC. This is a hands‑on technical role where you’ll work deeply with Python (PySpark), SQL, Azure cloud technologies and Databricks to deliver reliable, high‑performing data products.

You’ll thrive in an agile, fast‑moving environment, applying contemporary engineering practices, automation and continuous improvement to ensure our data foundations are robust, efficient and ready to support advanced analytics and AI use cases.

About the Team

This role sits within the Performance Insights & Analytics branch in the broader Performance, Risk & Strategy division, working closely with data engineers, analysts, data scientists and product teams to deliver high‑value data solutions.

You’ll be supported by a Manager who values clarity, autonomy and technical excellence, and you’ll collaborate with a team known for being curious, adaptable and committed to making the complicated simple.

What we’re looking for

Hands‑on technical expertise

You have strong, hands‑on experience building robust data pipelines using Python (PySpark), SQL and Azure technologies such as Databricks, Data Factory, Synapse and Data Lake. You work confidently end‑to‑end across ingestion, transformation, modelling and optimisation. You’re skilled at identifying platform‑level non‑functional requirements and proactively refining solutions to meet them, consistently improving delivery speed and quality.

Adaptable and agile‑minded

You’re comfortable working in an agile delivery environment, iterating quickly, managing competing priorities and adjusting to changing needs. You apply contemporary engineering practices, automation and CI/CD principles to deliver high‑quality outcomes.

Self‑managed and collaborative

You work autonomously with strong ownership, yet you’re equally effective collaborating with stakeholders, analysts and data scientists. You communicate clearly, solve problems proactively and contribute positively to team culture.

Continuous Learner

You learn new skills and techniques to keep up with the latest features and releases in big data area and in the Databricks product and bring implementation clarity to TAC. You use AI coding helpers and write efficient and faster code.

Why you’ll love it here

There’s more to work than a competitive salary and amazing employee benefits. As our newest Data Engineer, you’ll also:

Make a positive difference

Every day the work you do at the TAC contributes to something bigger. As part of an inclusive, supportive team you’ll find real purpose in achieving goals, together.

Be rewarded for great work

We value our people, offering a service delivery payment, salary packaging and a reward and recognition program.

Grow and go places

We’re invested in your progress. When you work for one of Victoria’s largest and leading workplaces, you’ll receive extensive internal opportunities for development and access to the LinkedIn Learning Digital Hub.
