Data Engineer – SQL & Analytics
As a Data Engineer, advanced SQL is at the core of this role. You'll spend much of your day writing, reviewing, optimizing, and troubleshooting SQL that powers business reporting and analytics while designing scalable data models and reliable data pipelines. Working on a small, highly collaborative engineering team, every engineer contributes to data modeling, pipeline development, SQL optimization, and solution design. You'll also partner directly with analysts, business leaders, and technical teams to understand business requirements and deliver trusted datasets that drive decision-making across the organization.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Write, review, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries that support business reporting, analytics, and data transformation
- Design and develop data serving and semantic layers to support business needs ranging from traditional reporting to reverse ETL and LLM/AI implementations
- Design and develop dimensional data models, semantic layers, and analytics-ready datasets that provide accurate, consistent data for reporting, self-service analytics, and business applications
- Build and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL, ELT) data from various sources into the data platform using both batch processing and event-driven patterns
- Implement and automate data quality checks and monitoring to ensure data accuracy and drive observability.
- Manage, troubleshoot and optimize existing data infrastructure, including cloud-based solutions and on-premises systems
- Leverage modern cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and Snowflake for data storage, transformation, and analytics
- Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver solutions
- Identify and resolve data-related issues and challenges for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Support company-wide projects ranging from server migrations to mergers and acquisitions as a data and systems expert
- Automate data processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. Implement modern concepts like metadata-driven pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code that will play a key role in a scalable, resilient data platform
- Document data processes, architecture, and workflows
- All other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- 3 – 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or Analytics Engineer
- Previous experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence, reporting, or data analytics is a plus.
- Experience working on small, collaborative engineering teams where individuals are expected to own solutions from requirements through implementation is preferred
- Advanced SQL skills are required, including experience writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex SQL queries used in production environments.
- Experience with Spark (PySpark, Spark SQL, etc.)
- Experience with developing bespoke data pipelines and handling various authentication patterns
- Experience building and maintaining production dbt models is strongly preferred
- Experience partnering directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions
- Experience with data warehousing and data lake technologies, concepts and best practices
- Experience designing dimensional models and semantic layers for reporting and analytics
- Understanding of data modeling and ETL processes and best practices
- Experience within Azure, AWS, or similar cloud environments
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, or other modern cloud data platforms is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience implementing data quality monitoring and observability solutions
- Willingness to work as a team and independently.
