Founding Data Engineer | Fast-Growing Tech Scale-Up £95-105K

A fast-scaling hardware/software company is making its first ever data hire and they're looking for someone who wants to build a data function from zero, not maintain someone else's.

The company currently has valuable commercial, operational and product data spread across several systems. You would own bringing this together into a single, reliable source of truth, building the underlying architecture and creating consistent definitions that can be used across the business.

What you'll actually be doing:

• Architecting the data foundation solo, with a clear path to leading the team as it's built out around you
• Using AI/LLM tooling to accelerate integration and build genuinely self-serve, trustworthy natural-language querying, not just talking about it, building it
• Working directly with commercial, product, and engineering stakeholders to get real alignment on shared definitions

What we're looking for:

• Strong Python + SQL, comfortable owning architecture independently
• Databricks (or similar lakehouse/warehouse) plus dbt or equivalent
• Genuine hands-on experience building with LLMs/agents, not just familiarity
• Strong stakeholder management skills

Package:

• £95-105K base, equity (ESOP), private healthcare + other perks
• Minimum once a month in the office in Oxfordshire
