Data Engineer

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to support data engineering initiatives in the banking and financial services sector. This hybrid opportunity is based in Porto, with two days per week in the office, and focuses on developing robust batch and real-time data pipelines for business-critical applications.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Design, develop, test and deploy batch and real-time data pipelines.

- Build ETL and ELT processes using Python and Spark.

- Work with data lakes, data warehouses and modern lakehouse formats.

- Optimize data storage, query performance and data processing efficiency.

- Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code.

- Participate in code reviews and promote software engineering best practices.

- Apply CI/CD and unit testing practices within data engineering delivery.

- Implement monitoring, logging and alerting to ensure pipeline reliability.

- Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline failures.

- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts and product stakeholders.

- Translate data requirements into scalable technical solutions.

- Optimize Spark jobs for performance, memory management and cost efficiency.

- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

- More than 9 years of professional experience, including strong hands-on experience in data engineering.

- Advanced proficiency in Python, including object-oriented programming, pandas and testing frameworks.

- Strong practical experience writing and optimizing PySpark jobs.

- Excellent command of SQL and experience with relational databases and data warehouses.

- Experience with at least one major cloud provider.

- Experience with workflow orchestration tools.

- Strong focus on code quality, testing, reliability and maintainability.

- Ability to collaborate daily with international stakeholders.

- Excellent written and spoken English.

- Autonomous, organised and solution-oriented approach.

COMPENSATION TRANSPARENCY

Base salary range: EUR 22 000 - EUR 32 000 gross/year

Total compensation: up to EUR 40 000/year

The salary range is based on objective and gender-neutral criteria, including required competencies, professional experience, level of responsibility and role requirements. Final compensation will be determined according to the candidate's profile and position requirements.
