About the Role

The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and operating scalable data pipelines that power CGM's healthcare data services. This role focuses on building robust ETL/ELT solutions, ensuring high data quality, enabling AI-powered products, and collaborating with product, architecture, and AI engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance data platforms for SaaS applications and healthcare partners.

Location: Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany (Hybrid)

Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Pipeline Development

  • Design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines supporting healthcare SaaS products.
  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, FastAPI, Apache Spark, and Scala.
  • Transform pharmaceutical, prescription, and clinical reference data into reliable, high-performance datasets.
  • Optimize data processing workflows for scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure production pipelines deliver accurate and timely data for internal products and external partners.
  • Continuously improve the performance and maintainability of enterprise data platforms.

Data Architecture & Quality

  • Design and develop data products that enable AI-powered features and partner integrations.
  • Maintain high standards of data quality, lineage, observability, and governance.
  • Implement schema management, validation, and monitoring processes.
  • Establish ownership and accountability for production data pipelines and services.
  • Ensure reliable, performant, and scalable data architectures.
  • Support data integrity across mission-critical healthcare systems.

AI Integration & Modern Engineering

  • Collaborate closely with AI Engineers, Product Management, and Architects to build AI-native data solutions.
  • Utilize Claude Code and AI agents to accelerate pipeline development and schema migrations.
  • Develop reusable AI-assisted engineering workflows and automation.
  • Contribute to AI pipeline design, context engineering, and workflow optimization.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging AI technologies to improve engineering productivity.
  • Promote engineering best practices across AI-enabled data platforms.

DevOps & Platform Engineering

  • Implement automated testing throughout the data engineering lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for data services.
  • Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform.
  • Utilize GitOps methodologies and tools such as ArgoCD for deployment automation.
  • Implement monitoring, observability, and operational reliability practices.
  • Support secure, cloud-based data infrastructure and platform operations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Management, AI Engineering, and Architecture teams to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Support healthcare partner integrations through reliable data products.
  • Share technical expertise and mentor engineering team members.
  • Contribute to strategic data platform initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Foster collaboration across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Drive innovation while supporting CGM's mission of improving healthcare through technology.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Extensive senior-level experience in Data Engineering with Python.
  • Proven experience designing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade data pipelines in regulated or business-critical environments.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency.
  • Experience with modern data technologies such as Airflow, dbt, Apache Spark, PySpark, or Kafka.
  • Experience working with cloud data platforms, preferably AWS.
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Knowledge of GitOps practices and deployment tools such as ArgoCD.
  • Experience with version control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools in software or data engineering workflows.
  • Fluent German and English language skills.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly proactive mindset with strong ownership and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development tools.
  • Experience designing AI pipelines, context engineering, and AI workflows.
  • Experience building reusable engineering automation frameworks.
  • Experience within healthcare, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries.
