About the Role
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and operating scalable data pipelines that power CGM's healthcare data services. This role focuses on building robust ETL/ELT solutions, ensuring data quality, enabling AI-driven products, and collaborating with product, architecture, and AI engineering teams to deliver high-performance data platforms for SaaS solutions and healthcare partners.
Location: Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany (Hybrid)
Responsibilities
Data Engineering & Pipeline Development
- Design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines supporting healthcare SaaS products.
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, FastAPI, Apache Spark, and Scala.
- Transform pharmaceutical, prescription, and clinical reference data into reliable analytical datasets.
- Ensure high-performance, scalable, and maintainable data processing workflows.
- Optimize pipeline efficiency, reliability, and operational costs.
- Support continuous improvement of enterprise data platforms.
Data Architecture & Quality
- Maintain high standards of data quality, lineage, and observability.
- Design reliable and scalable data products for internal and external stakeholders.
- Implement schema management and data validation processes.
- Ensure consistent ownership and governance of production data pipelines.
- Monitor data integrity and operational performance.
- Develop scalable solutions for business-critical healthcare data.
AI & Modern Data Platform Integration
- Collaborate with AI Engineers to enable AI-native products and capabilities.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code and AI agents, to accelerate engineering workflows.
- Support AI pipeline development and context engineering initiatives.
- Build reusable data engineering workflows and automation solutions.
- Contribute to innovative AI-driven healthcare technologies.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to improve engineering productivity.
DevOps & Platform Engineering
- Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment best practices.
- Support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives using Terraform.
- Manage version control, monitoring, and operational observability.
- Apply GitOps practices for infrastructure and deployment automation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve platform reliability.
- Support secure, scalable cloud-based data environments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product Management, AI Engineering, and Architecture teams.
- Translate business and product requirements into scalable data solutions.
- Contribute to strategic data platform initiatives.
- Share technical expertise and best practices across engineering teams.
- Support partner integrations and enterprise data products.
- Drive continuous innovation and operational excellence.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- Extensive senior-level experience in Data Engineering with Python.
- Proven experience operating production data pipelines in regulated or business-critical environments.
- Advanced SQL proficiency.
- Experience with modern data platforms and technologies such as Apache Spark, PySpark, Airflow, dbt, or Kafka.
- Experience with cloud data platforms, preferably AWS.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Knowledge of GitOps practices, including ArgoCD.
- Experience with version control, automated testing, CI/CD, and monitoring.
- Experience leveraging AI tools within software or data engineering workflows.
- Fluent German and English language skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Highly proactive mindset with excellent collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Claude Code or similar AI-assisted engineering tools.
- Experience designing AI pipelines and context engineering solutions.
- Experience developing reusable engineering workflows and automation.
- Experience supporting healthcare or other highly regulated industries.
