Linux System Administrator

The role focuses on system stability, patching, security hardening, and incident resolution while following established IT processes and standards.

Key Responsibilities

Server & System Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, Ubuntu, Rocky, CentOS), both physical and virtual.

• Manage system services: SSH, DNS, DHCP, NTP, LDAP/SSSD, Postfix, NFS/SMB, systemd, cron.

• Apply OS patches, kernel updates, and maintain software repositories (yum/dnf/apt).

Monitoring & Performance

• Monitor system health and performance using tools such as top, iostat, sar, vmstat, netstat, and enterprise platforms like Prometheus or Zabbix.

Backup & Recovery

• Implement and test backup/restore routines using tools like Veeam, Bacula, or NetBackup.

Storage Management

• Manage storage using LVM, MDADM RAID, multipath, iSCSI/FC, and file systems (ext4, XFS, Btrfs).

Security & Hardening

• Harden servers per CIS/STIG benchmarks.

• Manage firewalls (iptables, nftables, firewalld), SELinux or AppArmor.

Automation & Scripting

• Write basic Bash and occasional Python scripts to automate tasks.

Incident Response & Support

• Troubleshoot system issues, perform root cause analysis, and document SOPs/runbooks.

• Support users and development teams with permissions, environment config, and troubleshooting.

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.

• 1–5 years hands-on Linux administration experience.

• Solid understanding of Linux OS fundamentals, networking, storage, filesystems.

• Experience with systemd, diagnostics, log analysis (journalctl, syslog).

• Basic virtualization: VMware, KVM, Nutanix, or container basics (Docker).

• Basic scripting skills and Git version control.
