Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain Linux environments including RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Debian in production environments.
- Perform OS installation, patching, kernel upgrades, package management, and ensure system availability, performance, and reliability.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, authentication (LDAP/Active Directory/PAM), system services, storage (LVM, NFS/CIFS), and backup/restore operations.
- Configure and troubleshoot networking components including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, bonding, routing, firewall (iptables/firewalld), and connectivity issues.
- Monitor infrastructure using tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, and proactively resolve performance, capacity, and availability issues.
- Troubleshoot complex Linux system, application, storage, and network issues using logs, performance analysis, and advanced diagnostic tools to perform root cause analysis (RCA).
- Implement and maintain Linux security hardening, vulnerability remediation, SELinux/AppArmor policies, SSL/TLS certificates, and compliance with security standards.
- Automate operational tasks using Shell (Bash), Ansible, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Puppet to improve operational efficiency.
- Design, implement, and support high-availability, disaster recovery, virtualization, containerized (Docker/Kubernetes), and hybrid cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) Linux infrastructure.
- Optimize system performance through capacity planning, kernel tuning, resource optimization, and infrastructure performance engineering.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, runbooks, architecture documents, and knowledge base articles.
- Provide technical leadership by handling L2/L3 escalations, mentoring junior engineers, participating in on-call support, and collaborating with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver reliable infrastructure solutions.
Required Qualifications
- 3–8 years of hands-on Linux administration in a production environment
- Strong proficiency with at least two major distros (RHEL/CentOS and Ubuntu preferred)
- Solid understanding of Linux internals: process management, kernel tuning, boot sequence
- Experience with LVM, RAID, and storage management
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, and firewall configuration
- Scripting skills in Bash; familiarity with Python is a plus
- Experience with at least one configuration management tool (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or equivalent certification
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Podman) and basic Kubernetes knowledge
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid infrastructure
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling (Jenkins, GitLab CI)
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira)
