Core Responsibilities & Duties
- Day-to-day operational system administration support to administer, monitor, and maintain a large-scale computer network and related software, hardware, and configurations.
- Providing technical and system administration support through troubleshooting, identifying and isolating issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing appropriate solutions to software and system issues as they occur.
- Responding to program-related issues, resolving problems, and stakeholder tickets.
- Prepare technical documentation that accurately depicts the problem and/or solution and provide to system owner.
- Identifying and analyzing issues that affect the performance of the system, and to work in close coordination with the development team and recommend solutions for the issues.
- Recommending and implementing system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management.
- Analyzing and identifying discrepancies in the system, assessing the risks, and suggesting solutions while adhering to security standards.
- Resolving Linux system error, crashes, and disk space problems.
- Communicating effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal and external customers, in written and oral format
- Interacting with stakeholders including providing advice and troubleshooting of issues.
- Available for on-call support.
- Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups.
- Serve as first level support for customers seeking technical assistance; respond to incoming calls and emails regarding service-related inquiries for TFMS & DSP issues.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Experience
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience
- Experience with critical operations in a large-scale secure environment
- Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux, including knowledge of related hardware and software
- Experience with Windows, Solaris, and VMWare environments
Shift Details
Training Period: M-F approximately 8:30AM – 4:00PM
Post-Training: Shift work. May be either Days (7:00AM – 7:00PM) or Nights (7:00PM – 7:00AM), Rotating days, 84 total hours every 2 weeks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server/Workstation Suite and Red Hat Satellite Server Suite
- Knowledge of the Unix methods, and techniques used in systems administration and support.
- Knowledge of Unix principles, file editing, Unix commands, and file manipulation
- Knowledge of Linux/Perl scripting, web-based applications, HP OpenView Enterprise, VMware VSphere Enterprise Server Suite, TripWire Enterprise Console, NetApps System Storage Manager.
- Experience providing operations & maintenance support, including supporting helpdesk, providing 24/7 engineering support for system outages or corrective maintenance, supporting technology (hardware/software) refreshes, and understanding backup procedures and storage management
- Supporting and following configuration management plans and processes, updating documentation, supporting annual authorization processes including independent testing teams
