ECHO is hiring in our IT department! The IBM Power Systems Administrator / Operator is responsible for the administration, operation, maintenance, and support of ECHO’s IBM Power infrastructure and IBM i (AS/400) environments. This role supports critical business applications including Infor XA ERP, manufacturing systems, finance-related retention environments, integrations, backups, and supporting infrastructure.

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 based on experience and qualifications.

This is a hybrid position that will offer the flexibility of working from home and on-site at our Lake Zurich facility.

Duties/Responsibilities:

IBM Power Systems & IBM i Administration

  • Administer and support IBM Power Systems hardware and IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) environments.
  • Configure and maintain LPARs, HMC, firmware, PTFs, and operating system updates.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and security.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and performance issues; coordinate vendor support with IBM.
  • Perform system maintenance, upgrades, and infrastructure optimization.

ERP & Operational Support

  • Support Infor XA ERP and other business-critical manufacturing applications.
  • Maintain manufacturing, shop floor, demand planning, finance, and audit-related systems.
  • Manage job processing, subsystem monitoring, spool files, user access, printers, and operational workflows.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot batch processing and scheduled jobs.

Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity

  • Administer IBM i backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Support FlashCopy, VTL, SAN-integrated, and immutable backup solutions.
  • Validate backup integrity and participate in recovery testing and documentation.
  • Coordinate business continuity activities with infrastructure and storage teams.

Storage, Security & Infrastructure

  • Support SAN storage environments, replication, connectivity, and capacity management.
  • Coordinate maintenance, firmware updates, and performance optimization efforts.
  • Support IBM i security, compliance, audits, access controls, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Monitor system logs, alerts, and security events while partnering with cybersecurity teams.

Operations & Collaboration

  • Monitor platform health, backups, critical jobs, and incident response activities.
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures and technical documentation.
  • Provide after-hours production support as needed.
  • Collaborate with ERP, Infrastructure, Application, IBM, and third-party support teams.
  • Participate in modernization, ERP migration, and hybrid platform initiatives.

Job Experience/Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience supporting IBM i / Power Systems environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise ERP platforms.

Requirements:

  • IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) administration.
  • IBM Power Systems hardware administration.
  • HMC management.
  • Infor XA ERP support.
  • IBM BRMS, Spectrum Protect, or enterprise backup solutions.
  • SAN/storage technologies.
  • PowerHA or high availability technologies.
  • IBM MQ / middleware technologies.
  • SQL and Db2 knowledge.
  • Batch job scheduling and operational automation.
  • LaserVault virtual tape libraries.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Relative experience can substitute for degree.
