Software Engineer - SysAdmin

TimePlay

Toronto, ON M5V 2P2

Hybrid work

$80,000–$120,000 a year - Full-time

About Us

TimePlay is an interactive entertainment brand that delivers live and unforgettable game show experiences that turn audiences into participants through mobile-driven engagement. Powered by innovative technology and iconic formats including Deal or No Deal, Wheel of Fortune, The Price Is Right, and Jeopardy!, TimePlay brings people together through the power of play and redefines audience participation.

We’re now expanding our platform beyond theatres, combining proprietary and third-party content with powerful cloud-based technology to create rich social experiences - from living rooms to global connections.

As we grow, we’re looking for a Software Engineer with a strong background in Systems Administration to help design, build, scale, and support the infrastructure and tooling powering these experiences.

What You’ll Do

As part of our DevOps / SiteOps & Engineering Team, you will:

  • Build and enhance automation for product deployments and deployment validation.
  • Develop and maintain internal tools, scripts, and services that improve productivity and reduce operational burden.
  • Assist with load testing, performance tuning, and capacity planning across multiple environments.
  • Prepare, deploy, and support infrastructure for live demos, partner-facing events, and show environments.
  • Continuously improve operational processes by streamlining, consolidating, and automating workflows.
  • Monitor system health, maintain observability tooling, and contribute to performance and reliability improvements.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, handle incident response, and provide occasional after-hours or weekend support for live events or urgent issues.
  • Support occasional client site visits for installations, troubleshooting, or major activations.
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering team through daily Scrum meetings, sprint planning, code reviews, and Agile practices.

Who You Are

  • A SysAdmin-oriented software engineer: who enjoys writing code as much as configuring infrastructure.
  • A problem-solver: who automates first and eliminates manual steps wherever possible.
  • A collaborator: humble, open to feedback, and eager to share knowledge.
  • A team player: known for a can-do attitude and problem-solving mindset.
  • A learner: curious, quick to pick up new tools, and driven to grow.
  • An executor: focused on quality, reliability, and proactive problem prevention.

What You Bring

  • 2–5 years of experience in software engineering and systems administration.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, Bash, TypeScript, or PowerShell).
  • Strong experience with Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux) and Windows.
  • Experience with tools and technologies such as: Git, Python, PowerShell, MySQL, PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Docker, containerized services, and artifact management (Artifactory, Nexus).
  • Solid understanding of Linux administration, networking, and security basics.
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK).
  • Familiarity with basic project management.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with container signing / supply chain security.
  • Familiarity with serverless and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience supporting on-site demos, media events, or live tech operations.

Why Join Us?

At TimePlay, you’ll be part of a small but impactful team shaping the future of interactive entertainment. We offer:

  • Hybrid work environment (downtown Toronto office)
  • Comprehensive benefits packages including PWS and HSA
  • Opportunities to work on cutting-edge, consumer-facing technology
  • A collaborative culture where your work has a direct impact

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
