This opportunity is based out of our corporate headquarters in Temple, TX. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-mile radius of Temple, TX
Manage and oversee all aspects of product tax administration, including tax determination, collection, remittance, reporting, licensing, and tax stamp management for regulated products such as cigarettes, other tobacco products (OTP), beverages, and other applicable excise-taxed products. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements while supporting operational efficiency, financial accuracy, and enterprise-wide business initiatives.

What you'll do as a Product Tax and Compliance Manager:
- Lead, develop, and manage product tax team, ensuring high performance, accountability, and continuous professional development.
- Serve as the primary business owner of the Profile tax system, ensuring accurate tax determination, configuration, maintenance, and application across all applicable products and jurisdictions.
- Oversee new item setup and maintenance processes to ensure regulated and taxable products are properly reviewed, coded, and taxed in compliance with jurisdictional requirements.
- Manage the maintenance and oversight of tax stamp inventory items and related compliance processes.
- Monitor and analyze federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory changes impacting product tax obligations and communicate compliance requirements to affected business partners.
- Drive operational excellence by balancing technical compliance requirements with business objectives and process improvement initiatives.
- Design, develop, and maintain jurisdictionally compliant reporting, schedules, and analytical tools utilizing Alteryx or similar technologies.
- Reconcile product tax-related general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and McLane accounting policies while supporting accurate financial reporting.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve material reporting variances, compliance issues, and process exceptions.
- Support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and audit resolution activities.
- Review Product Tax Best Practices, policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure consistent compliance across the organization.
- Lead testing, implementation, and conversion efforts for electronic filing solutions and tax system enhancements as required by jurisdictional mandates.
- Partner with Information Technology & Digital (IT&D), Merchandising, Corporate Tax, Accounting, Special Operations, Distribution Centers, and external regulatory agencies to achieve compliance and business objectives.
- Support special projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications you'll bring as a Product Tax and Compliance Manager:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Five or more years of progressive experience in tax, accounting, regulatory compliance, or a related field, including demonstrated experience leading and developing teams.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting requirements, and internal controls.
- Comprehensive understanding of product taxes, excise taxes, tobacco taxes, licensing requirements, and related regulatory compliance preferred.
- Advanced analytical, project management, and critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with executives, regulators, business partners, and team members.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and talent development capabilities.
- Ability to research, interpret, and apply complex tax laws and regulations to business operations.
- Demonstrated capability to stay current on evolving tobacco, excise tax, and regulatory developments and implement appropriate compliance actions.
- This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
