About Us

Brim makes EV Chargers and develops software to solve tomorrow's energy problems. We're building in a legacy industry, moving fast to get charging infrastructure into new homes across the UK, and growing our team to meet demand from some of the country's largest homebuilders. Visit www.fulltothebrim.com to learn more about us.

About The Role

Software Engineers at Brim build the core infrastructure that connects to EV chargers, gets them installed and commissioned in new-build homes, and keeps them running reliably once residents move in.

This is a generalist Software Engineering role, spanning product engineering, DevOps, and hardware integration.

We encourage engineers to own as much of the problem space as they can: you'll spend time talking to customers, getting feedback from users, and working directly with charging hardware, not just the software layer above it.

Software engineering at Brim looks like

  • Forming a deep understanding of the sector and our business, so you have enough context to execute independently at speed
  • Focusing on outcomes, not process, and taking ownership for the end product you ship into the world
  • Managing your own time and adapting to changing scope and deadlines, using modern AI-assisted and agentic development workflows as standard practice to move fast

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building and maintaining our EV charging platform across backend, frontend, mobile and cloud infrastructure
  • Designing APIs and system architecture that scales with our growth
  • Using modern AI-assisted and agentic coding tools as a normal part of how you write and ship code, and helping the team evaluate and adopt new ones as they emerge
  • Writing clean, tested code in TypeScript and Python
  • Solving real-world integration challenges with charging hardware (OCPP)
  • Shaping engineering practice as we grow the team: your input on tooling, process and architecture will directly influence how Brim builds

Tech Stack

☁️ We deploy on GCP, with Kubernetes, Helm and Terraform

🟦 Backend and APIs in Node.js/TypeScript, with Python where it fits

🔌 OCPP for talking directly to charging hardware

🗄️ MongoDB for data

📱 Flutter for mobile (a bonus skill, not a focus)

🤖 We build agentic and AI-assisted development into how we work day to day, and expect you to keep exploring new tools and workflows as they emerge, not treat this as a one-off setup

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

  • 3+ years experience building and shipping products
  • Solid fundamentals in software engineering and problem-solving
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS or Azure)
  • Genuine curiosity about new tools and ways of working: comfortable adopting AI-assisted and agentic development workflows rather than sticking to how you've always worked

Nice-to-haves

  • Terraform, Helm
  • Mobile experience (Flutter) is a bonus

We're a startup, so you won't know everything on day one. We're keen to build a diverse team, and especially want to hear from candidates who don't fit the traditional engineering mould. If you don't tick every box but you're curious and adaptable, apply anyway.
