Senior Backend Developer

The Senior Backend Developer will design, develop, and maintain the backend services of the HR platform. The role will have a strong focus on scalable SaaS architecture, business-critical HR and payroll processes, external system integrations, and Saudi market requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript, and MySQL.
• Build scalable APIs and services supporting HRMS, payroll, employee management, attendance, workflows, reporting, and related product capabilities.
• Design secure and maintainable RESTful APIs for web, mobile, and third-party integrations.
• Develop integrations with Saudi government, regulatory, banking, identity, payroll, ERP, and enterprise platforms.
• Implement authentication, authorisation, access controls, audit logs, encryption, and secure data-handling practices.
• Design and optimise database structures, queries, indexes, transactions, and data-processing workflows.
• Build reliable integration mechanisms with logging, validation, retries, reconciliation, exception handling, and monitoring.
• Participate in technical design discussions, estimation, sprint planning, code reviews, and release preparation.
• Write maintainable, documented, tested, and reusable code.
• Investigate and resolve production issues, performance bottlenecks, integration failures, and data inconsistencies.
• Develop unit, integration, and API tests for critical functionality.
• Support the modernisation of existing modules and the development of new market-driven product features.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, documentation, testing, debugging, and code refactoring.
• Validate all AI-generated output before it is incorporated into the production codebase.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, product teams, and implementation teams.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of coding standards, development processes, system security, and platform performance.

• 4–6 years of backend software development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript, and MySQL.
• Strong experience with ORM frameworks, preferably Sequelize or TypeORM.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design, versioning, documentation, authentication, and authorisation.
• Experience building scalable, secure, and high-performance enterprise applications.
• Good knowledge of relational database design, query optimisation, transactions, and data integrity.
• Experience integrating with external APIs, ERP systems, payment gateways, identity providers, banking platforms, or government systems.
• Knowledge of webhooks, asynchronous processing, message queues, scheduled jobs, API rate limits, and integration-recovery mechanisms is preferred.
• Experience with Git, Agile/Scrum methodologies, clean code, design patterns, and software development best practices.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and cloud environments is preferred.
• Previous experience building cloud-based, multi-tenant SaaS platforms is highly preferred.
• Experience with HRMS, payroll, ERP, workforce management, or enterprise workflow applications is preferred.
• Experience with Saudi government or regulatory integrations is a strong advantage.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent tools.
• Understanding of the security, quality, confidentiality, and intellectual-property risks associated with AI-generated code.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, ownership, and ability to collaborate effectively within a development team.
