About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team in Jakarta. Please note that this is not a typical software house arrangement where engineers frequently rotate across varying internal or short-term projects.

Instead, you will be 100% dedicated to one specific client, operating as an embedded core extension of their engineering team to build out their long-term product ecosystem. While your day-to-day focus, technical alignment, and delivery workflows will be completely driven by this single enterprise client, you will work physically on-site alongside our team at the Hyge office in Jakarta. This offers the product-focus and stability of an in-house role, paired with the local community of the Hyge office.

Responsibilities

• Core Development: Design and build backend microservices for the client, a web application including features such as user management, sandbox-as-a-service, and content management.
• Team Collaboration: Participate actively in developer ceremonies such as daily check-ins, code reviews, and ad-hoc technical discussions.
• Technical Exploration: Drive technical explorations and design choices via spikes, producing clear, well-written documentation.
• Developer Experience: Continuously improve the internal developer experience through targeted tooling and automation.
• Feature Ownership: Take full, end-to-end ownership of features from initial design through deployment and active monitoring, working closely with Product management and fellow engineers.
• Engineering Operations: Perform crucial day-to-day engineering operations, including:
• Executing database migrations.
• Managing scaling operations.
• Handling administrative tasks requiring developer-level infrastructure access.

Skills & Experience

Must-have

• Experience: 5–8 years of professional experience building, scaling, and operating customer-facing systems.
• Language Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Golang with a solid command of idiomatic usage patterns.
• Architecture & Design: A proven track record of understanding and applying:
• RESTful API design and lifecycle management.
• Microservice architecture and distributed design patterns.
• Domain modeling, Contract-Driven Development, and defining clear Service Boundaries.
• Technical Communication: Proven ability to make clear architectural choices and articulate trade-offs, edge cases, and technical compromises effectively.
• Databases: Highly comfortable writing, debugging, and optimizing complex queries in PostgreSQL.

Nice-to-have

• Familiarity with AWS ecosystems and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly using Bitbucket Pipelines.
• Experience with container orchestration via Kubernetes.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) via Terraform or Ansible.
• Exposure to monitoring and observability stacks like Grafana, Prometheus, and Loki.
