Help Build an AI-First Engineering Organization
Location: Tampa, FL (onsite)
About Ashley
Ashley Furniture is the world's largest furniture manufacturer, serving customers in more than 123 countries. But we're far more than a manufacturing company—we're investing heavily in technology to transform how we build software, operate our business, and deliver value to our customers.
We're at the beginning of a company-wide transformation to become an AI-first organization, modernizing everything from our engineering practices and cloud platforms to manufacturing, retail, digital commerce, supply chain, and corporate systems.
We're looking for exceptional technical leaders who want to help define what that future looks like.
About the Role
We're looking for a highly technical leader who enjoys solving ambiguous problems, challenging conventional thinking, and helping shape the future of software engineering.
Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, you'll serve as one of Ashley's highest-level individual contributors, partnering with executive leadership and engineering teams across the company to define technology strategy, influence architecture decisions, and modernize how software is designed, built, deployed, and operated.
This role is equal parts architect, engineer, strategist, mentor, and innovator.
One day, you may be whiteboarding enterprise architecture with the CTO. The next, reviewing production code with engineering teams, building a proof of concept, evaluating emerging AI technologies, or helping solve one of the organization's most complex technical challenges.
If you're energized by difficult problems, rapid experimentation, and the opportunity to influence an entire engineering organization, you'll thrive here.
What You'll Do
Shape the Technology Strategy
Partner directly with the CTO to define Ashley's long-term technology vision.
- Influence architecture decisions across multiple engineering organizations
- Challenge assumptions and propose innovative technical solutions
- Evaluate architectural tradeoffs and drive technology decisions that scale with the business
- Define engineering principles, reference architectures, and technical standards
- Help determine where emerging technologies—including AI—can create meaningful business value
Help Build an AI-First Engineering Organization
Technology is central to Ashley's future.
- You'll help lead the transformation of how software is developed across the company by evaluating and introducing modern AI capabilities that improve developer productivity, engineering workflows, and business outcomes.
- You'll work alongside the CTO to help shape the future of autonomous software development, intelligent engineering platforms, and AI-enabled software delivery.
Solve the Company's Hardest Technical Problems
Partner with engineering teams across the organization to tackle complex technical challenges. Depending on business priorities and your expertise, you'll influence initiatives spanning:
- Retail Technology
- Digital Commerce
- Manufacturing
- Supply Chain
- AI Platforms
- Data Engineering
- Infrastructure
- Platform Engineering
- Security
- Developer Experience
Accelerate Engineering Teams
You'll serve as a trusted technical advisor across the engineering organization.
- Review architecture and critical technical designs
- Participate in code reviews and engineering discussions
- Build proofs of concept that validate new ideas
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders
- Raise engineering standards through collaboration and technical leadership
- Help teams move faster while improving quality and scalability
What We're Looking For
We're looking for experienced technology leaders who combine deep technical expertise with strong architectural thinking and a passion for solving complex engineering problems.
Preferred Experience
- 10+ years of experience building enterprise software platforms and distributed systems
- Strong software engineering background with hands-on coding experience
- Experience with Python, Java, .NET, Go, or similar language
- Experience designing enterprise architecture for large-scale systems
- Cloud expertise with Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or similar platforms
- Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
- CI/CD platforms and modern software delivery practices
- Enterprise integration and distributed system design
- Security architecture and identity management
- High-availability and resilient system design
- Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines
You'll Be Successful If You...
- Enjoy solving problems that don't have obvious answers.
- Challenge ideas respectfully—even when they're widely accepted.
- Balance strong technical opinions with curiosity and adaptability.
- Lead through influence rather than authority.
- Thrive in fast-paced environments where priorities evolve.
- Love building as much as designing.
- Get excited by creating something that doesn't exist yet.
Why Join Ashley?
Most architecture roles focus on maintaining existing systems. This one is different.
You'll work directly with the CTO to help define the future of engineering at one of the world's largest manufacturing companies. You'll have the opportunity to:
- Influence enterprise-wide technology strategy
- Help build an AI-first engineering organization
- Shape architecture across multiple business domains
- Prototype and introduce emerging technologies
- Work on greenfield initiatives as well as large-scale modernization efforts
- Mentor engineering teams and elevate technical excellence across the company
- Leave a lasting impact on how software is built throughout the organization
If you're looking for a role where your ideas matter as much as your technical expertise—and where you'll help build the future instead of simply maintaining the present—we'd love to meet you.
