Senior Backend Engineer
Indexed description
We build products for people who want to get better at things: Deepstash (micro-learning, millions of users), Paladin (history, but interactive), Protocol (longevity), Empirio (finance and strategy), Dilemmo (moral dilemmas that mess with your head a little).
We have no less than 10 million+ users across our app portfolio.
We do move fast with no committees, no approval chains, no fifteen-person Slack thread to ship a button, so if you need permission to have an opinion, this isn't it.
What you'd actually do
- Own substantial pieces of the backend end to end, work that touches millions of users
- Contribute to architecture decisions and technical direction
- Mentor the engineers around you, thoughtful reviews and lifting the standard
- Drive technical calls in your domain and resolve the ambiguity where friction or debt is slowing us down
- Use AI as a force multiplier
- Ship fast, but deliberately, testing ideas without piling up hidden debt
- Make calls in your domain and live with them
What we want
- 4+ years building scalable backend systems
- Python/Django/AWS, but we're hiring judgment, not a stack match
- Comfortable with SQL and NoSQL, ideally Postgres, comfortable with ambiguity, comfortable saying "this is wrong" out loud
- A track record shipping backend at scale, and mentoring engineers without being told to
- Cloud infra experience, preferably AWS
The deal
- Office 3+ days a week
- Real ownership on real systems, wherever you land across our stack
- A high-impact senior role in a fast-moving consumer scaleup
- You'll help define how backend engineering works here as we grow, not just execute someone else's plan for it.
