What’s the role?

To help us build upon our success, we are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to contribute in improving our search system performance and scalability. The position reports to the Software Development Manager and will work in close conjunction with the Product, Algorithm/Data Science, and various Engineering teams

What will you be doing?

• Design and implement robust, scalable backend services and APIs that power our core platform
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
• Develop and maintain databases (SQL and/or NoSQL), including schema design, query optimization, and data modelling
• Design, implement, and maintain RESTful APIs with a focus on security, performance, and clear documentation
• Build and maintain data pipelines and backend automation workflows
• Implement automated testing strategies (unit, integration, contract) to guarantee reliability and scalability
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and technical issues through root cause analysis
• Work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to translate requirements into backend solutions
• Contribute to system design discussions, code reviews, and a positive team engineering culture

Here are a few skills that we feel would make you successful in the role, but we’d still love to hear from you if you feel you’d be a great fit.

• Bachelor’s degree in in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, with a solid foundation in CS fundamentals
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience as a Backend or Server-Side Software Engineer in a production environment
• Strong proficiency in Golang, with experience building scalable and maintainable backend services
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python for automation, data processing, or tooling
• Experience with pipeline/workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow
• Solid experience with both SQL and NoSQL database systems
• Experience with distributed caching technologies such as Redis, Memcached, or Valkey
• Experience with at least one messaging or queueing system, such as AWS SQS, Azure Service Bus Queue, Kafka, or RabbitMQ
• Experience using at least one monitoring or observability platform, such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Amazon CloudWatch, Datadog, PagerDuty, or Loki
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Horizontal Pod Autoscaling (HPA)
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles
• Experience writing clean, modular, testable code with an emphasis on maintainability
• Solid grasp of HTTP, REST API design patterns, and API security best practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

It would also be a plus if you have:

• Strong proficiency in Java Spring Boot for building scalable backend services
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
• Familiarity with Kubernetes package management tools such as Helm
