We are building a world-class technology team in Amsterdam and are looking for a Backend Engineer (m/f/d) who combines customer obsession, analytical thinking, and execution excellence to help shape the future of our platform.

We are seeking a Backend Engineer (m/f/d) to build and scale the systems that power bluumy's platform. You will focus on designing robust backend services, APIs, integrations, and infrastructure that enable seamless user experiences and future growth.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems
• Build and optimize APIs and microservices
• Design efficient database structures and data models
• Ensure platform security, reliability, and performance
• Collaborate closely with Product and Frontend Engineering teams
• Monitor and improve system health and scalability
• Participate in architectural decisions
• Support deployment, observability, and infrastructure initiatives
• Write automated tests and maintain engineering quality standards

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong experience with modern backend technologies
• Experience building scalable APIs and distributed systems
• Strong database knowledge (SQL and/or NoSQL)
• Experience with cloud infrastructure
• Understanding of security best practices
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Fluent English communication skills

• Experience in high-growth startup environments
• E-commerce or marketplace experience
• Experience with event-driven architectures
• Experience with containerization technologies
• German language skills
• Interest in educational technology
