Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer – Architecture Team responsible for designing and developing scalable, secure backend services that support digital banking platforms. The role encompasses backend development, system integration, architectural contribution, technical leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver resilient and high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Work as part of a central Architecture team: provide hands-on technical support to product development teams, take on tasks from their backlogs when needed, and act as a technical reference point across the organization, collaborating closely with product, QA, compliance, and operations teams
• Design and develop backend services across the bank's digital banking stack — scalable RESTful APIs, microservices, API gateways, and integration/adapter services supporting digital banking journeys
• Integrate banking services with digital channels, core banking systems, and third-party platforms such as digital onboarding / identity verification (KYC) and real-time customer engagement & campaign management systems
• Contribute to pragmatic architectural decisions, balancing real-world trade-offs; help define and uphold engineering standards and drive the modernization of existing services toward modern Java, event-driven, and cloud-native architectures
• Ensure data consistency, security, confidentiality, traceability, and auditability across distributed systems, including reliable validation, exception management, and retry flows
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code, and continuously improve systems with a focus on observability, resiliency, and operational excellence
• Support and mentor other engineers through technical guidance, feedback, and knowledge sharing
• Leverage modern tools, including AI-assisted development, to improve productivity while maintaining high quality standards

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience, preferably in banking or fintech
• Advanced proficiency in Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, etc.)
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka), with a strong grasp of object-oriented design and clean architecture principles
• Proven experience with both relational (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, etc.) databases, and the judgment to choose the right storage technology per use case
• Hands-on experience with containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes), cloud-native architectures, and CI/CD pipelines — preferably with GitLab
• Strong understanding of unit, integration, and contract testing; you write testable, maintainable code by default
• Solid understanding of monitoring, alerting, and observability practices in production systems
• Experience with secure coding practices and handling sensitive financial data
• A mindset of ownership and accountability; comfort operating in high-ambiguity environments, turning unclear problems into concrete solutions, and communicating decisions clearly across stakeholders
• Ability to effectively use AI tools as a productivity multiplier, while maintaining engineering rigor
• Pluses: core banking experience; integrations with external platforms (identity verification / KYC, campaign management, fraud, digital signature); comfort navigating codebases in unfamiliar languages and stacks
