Full Time Permanent
Up to $170,000 Salaried
Fully Onsite in Brookside, DE
Position Summary
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure across Microsoft, VMware, Linux, cloud, and endpoint-management environments. This is a hands-on senior-level role that manages infrastructure throughout its full lifecycle—from business requirements and architecture through deployment, monitoring, maintenance, modernization, and eventual decommissioning.
The engineer will serve as a technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues and lead projects involving Active Directory, virtualization, server platforms, storage, cloud networking, endpoint deployment, disaster recovery, and infrastructure security. The position requires strong technical depth, broad infrastructure knowledge, and the ability to communicate technical risks and investment needs to both IT and business leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage enterprise infrastructure across Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware, Linux, Azure, AWS, storage, and endpoint-management platforms.
- Lead the complete infrastructure lifecycle, including requirements gathering, capacity planning, architecture, deployment, change management, monitoring, maintenance, upgrades, and decommissioning.
- Architect and support Active Directory forests, domains, trusts, DNS, Group Policy, sites, services, and replication.
- Troubleshoot complex authentication, replication, Group Policy, DNS, and domain-controller issues across distributed locations.
- Design, administer, and optimize VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments supporting highly available and business-critical workloads.
- Develop infrastructure solutions involving clustering, live migration, shared storage, virtualized storage, and high-performance database environments.
- Support enterprise Linux platforms, including Oracle Linux, kernel patching, system maintenance, automation, security, and availability.
- Design secure hybrid-cloud connectivity using technologies such as Azure ExpressRoute, AWS Direct Connect, VPNs, virtual networks, VPCs, routing, firewalls, and private DNS.
- Create segmented cloud network architectures for web, application, and database environments using appropriate security groups, network security groups, access controls, and routing policies.
- Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, device-enrollment policies, application deployments, compliance policies, and Microsoft Entra ID integrations.
- Establish proactive monitoring, alerting, performance management, and capacity-planning standards across the infrastructure environment.
- Lead technical response efforts during major infrastructure incidents, outages, security events, and disaster-recovery situations.
- Maintain and test disaster-recovery, business-continuity, backup, immutable-storage, and infrastructure-restoration procedures.
- Partner with cybersecurity teams to isolate compromised systems, investigate incidents, reduce lateral movement, and restore critical services safely.
- Develop infrastructure standards, technical documentation, diagrams, operating procedures, and support runbooks.
- Evaluate aging infrastructure, vendor support timelines, performance limitations, security risks, and modernization opportunities.
- Build business cases for infrastructure investments by clearly communicating financial, operational, security, and availability risks to leadership.
- Coordinate with application, database, security, networking, cloud, service-desk, and business teams to deliver reliable infrastructure services.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and administrators.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, enterprise administration, or a related technical role.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory environments.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory forests, domains, trusts, DNS, Group Policy, replication, sites, services, and authentication.
- Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, HA, DRS, live migration, storage integration, and virtual-machine performance.
- Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server Failover Clustering.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise storage, clustering, high availability, backup, and disaster-recovery technologies.
- Experience administering enterprise Linux platforms, preferably including Oracle Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or similar distributions.
- Working knowledge of Oracle Linux technologies such as the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and Ksplice is preferred.
- Experience designing or supporting infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, AWS, or hybrid-cloud environments.
- Knowledge of Azure virtual networks, AWS VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, network access controls, private DNS, ExpressRoute, or Direct Connect.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, Entra ID, endpoint compliance, application deployment, and device configuration.
- Strong troubleshooting skills using tools such as PowerShell, Event Viewer, dcdiag, repadmin, and other infrastructure diagnostic utilities.
- Experience supporting business-critical infrastructure in highly available or 24x7 environments.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure security, incident response, vulnerability management, access control, and network segmentation.
- Ability to lead complex technical projects and coordinate work across multiple technical teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical risks and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience working within ITIL, change-management, or formal infrastructure-lifecycle frameworks.
- Microsoft, VMware, Linux, Azure, AWS, or ITIL certifications.
- Experience supporting mission-critical SQL Server or Oracle database infrastructure.
- Knowledge of infrastructure automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.
- Experience developing infrastructure budgets, technology roadmaps, lifecycle plans, and executive-level investment proposals.
- Previous experience serving as a senior escalation point or technical lead during major incidents and disaster-recovery events.
