The Microsoft Azure Cloud Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, security, and ongoing optimization of Brown Rudnick’s Microsoft Azure environment, supporting mission-critical legal applications and data. This role ensures high availability, performance, and compliance within a secure hybrid cloud infrastructure, working closely with the IT operations team and other functional departments within firm administration to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective cloud services aligned with the firm’s business and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain the firm’s Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Manage hybrid cloud environments by integrating Azure with on-premises systems and legal applications.
- Administer Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), identity governance, role-based access controls, and secure access configurations.
- Implement and maintain cloud security controls aligned with legal industry standards, client security requirements, and firm data protection policies.
- Deploy and support Azure Virtual Machines, networking, storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Automate infrastructure deployments using preferred Infrastructure-as-Code tools (examples: ARM, Bicep, Terraform) and scripting (examples: PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bash).
- Monitor system performance, availability, and cost optimization using Azure monitoring and management tools.
- Support cloud-hosted legal platforms and integrations, ensuring high availability of document management, financial, and practice systems.
- Collaborate with Security, IT Customer Service Desk, and other Functional Department teams to ensure stable and secure operations.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and business continuity initiatives.
- Assist with vendor coordination, cloud governance, and responses to client security audits or questionnaires.
- Engineer and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) workloads in Azure, including patching, hardening, and performance tuning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field required.
- 7+ years of engineering experience supporting large-scale (400+ users) infrastructure and cloud environments.
- Relevant Professional Certifications (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty, CCA / CCP / CCE / VCP) preferred.
- Strong experience with Azure architecture (compute, networking, identity, governance).
- Experience managing hybrid cloud environments integrating on-premises systems with Azure.
- Knowledge of Citrix to AVD migration and/or VMware to Azure migration preferred.
- Demonstrated experience implementing cloud security best practices in regulated or professional services environments.
- Experience with monitoring, performance optimization, and Azure cost management.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
- Familiarity with legal technology cloud services, such as document management systems, case management software, and e-discovery tools, is highly desirable.
- Client service driven with a solution driven mindset.
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and relevant legal compliance requirements.

- Cloud security controls remain strong, with successful audit outcomes and no material configuration-related incidents.
- Disaster recovery capabilities are tested and meet defined recovery objectives.
- Cloud infrastructure is cost-optimized and operates within approved budget parameters.
- The Azure environment reliably supports firm growth, legal technology platforms, and innovation initiatives.

Salary range based on experience level and location is estimated to be in the range of $140,000-160,000.
This position is required onsite in our Century City office five days a week, Monday through Friday.
