Cloud Engineer

Profectus is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Cloud Engineers to support the design, implementation, and uplift of cloud capability across secure Defence and Australian Government environments. You will provide technical advice and hands-on engineering across Microsoft Azure, building and operating secure, reliable cloud platforms that support national capability in highly governed settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Azure cloud services across compute, storage, networking, monitoring, and platform operations
- Implement and maintain secure cloud configurations aligned with Australian Government and Defence security policy, including the ISM and Essential Eight
- Develop and maintain automation and Infrastructure as Code using tools such as PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep, or Terraform
- Support cloud transformation initiatives, including workload migration, modernisation of legacy systems, and adoption of cloud native services
- Develop and enhance cloud security controls, governance standards, and operational processes
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise cloud platforms for performance, availability, and cost
- Support patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration management to maintain compliance
- Prepare high quality documentation, architectural artefacts, and reports to support governance, risk management, and decision making
- Provide authoritative technical advice to senior stakeholders on cloud architecture, security, and platform operations
- Engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate complex cloud concepts and inform delivery outcomes
- Operate productively in a high assurance environment while managing competing priorities and remaining accountable for outcomes, quality, and risk
Required Experience
- Demonstrated hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operating Microsoft Azure services in large or secure environments
- Broad experience across Azure compute, storage, networking, monitoring, automation, and platform operations
- Proven experience developing and maintaining automation and Infrastructure as Code using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep, or Terraform
- Sound understanding of cloud security best practice, secure architecture, and Zero Trust principles
- Experience supporting cloud migration, modernisation, and platform uplift
- Demonstrated ability to operate within Australian Government or Defence security policy and support audit, assurance, or accreditation processes
- Ability to operate effectively both independently and within integrated delivery teams
- Strong documentation skills and the ability to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable Experience
- Certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-500, or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Experience working within Defence or Australian Government environments or on nationally significant programs
- IRAP familiarity or experience working in PROTECTED environments
- Experience with hybrid or multi-cloud architectures
- Exposure to security operations, monitoring, and threat detection
- Experience managing complex ICT projects involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
Security Clearance Requirements
- Must be an Australian Citizen
- Must hold a current AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance
Working Arrangements
- Onsite in Canberra (ACT)
- Work is likely to be conducted within secure Defence and Australian Government environments
