Indexed description

An early-stage, venture-backed healthcare technology company is seeking a highly technical founding engineer or CTO-level leader to help build a next-generation consumer platform focused on navigating complex healthcare and insurance workflows. This is an opportunity to join at the ground floor and play a defining role in shaping both the product and the company.

About the Company

The company is building a consumer healthcare platform focused on helping people better navigate the administrative side of healthcare, an area that is incredibly broken, confusing, and time-consuming for most patients today.

The first product is centered around helping consumers review and dispute medical bills and insurance-related charges, with the goal of giving patients more visibility and leverage in a system that often feels impossible to navigate. Over time, the vision expands into broader healthcare support, including claims assistance, provider coordination, referrals, prior authorizations, and helping patients better understand healthcare costs before receiving care.

From a technical perspective, the platform leverages modern AI systems, healthcare data, and intelligent automation to streamline workflows that are traditionally manual, fragmented, and difficult for consumers to manage on their own.

The company recently raised a multi-million dollar seed round from well-known healthcare and consumer investors and is currently operating in stealth mode.

What You’ll Work On

  • Architect and build core backend systems from the ground up
  • Design and deploy agentic AI workflows and orchestration systems
  • Build scalable data pipelines, knowledge graphs, and intelligent retrieval systems
  • Develop production-grade AI systems operating within regulated environments
  • Partner directly with the founder on technical strategy, product direction, and company-building
  • Evaluate and implement modern AI infrastructure, frameworks, and tooling
  • Help define engineering culture, hiring, and long-term technical vision

Ideal Background

  • Strong experience building and deploying AI-powered products in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with LLM systems, agents, orchestration frameworks, and workflow automation
  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals and systems design capabilities
  • Experience operating in startup environments, ideally from 0→1 or early-stage build phases
  • Comfortable working across infrastructure, data, AI implementation, and product engineering
  • Exposure to healthcare, fintech, compliance-heavy, or other regulated industries is highly preferred
  • Experience with knowledge graphs, structured/unstructured data systems, or intelligent retrieval architectures is a strong plus
  • Product-minded builder who enjoys ambiguity, ownership, and fast iteration

What They’re Looking For

This team is specifically looking for someone who wants to operate as a true early partner, not simply an employee. The right person is mission-driven, highly adaptable, deeply technical, and excited by the challenge of building from scratch in a fast-moving, high-intensity environment.

Additional Details

  • San Francisco-based required (or willing to relocate)
  • Small, high-ownership founding team
  • Meaningful equity opportunity
  • Competitive early-stage cash compensation
  • Opportunity to shape a category-defining consumer healthcare platform from inception
