Platform Engineer II / Cloud Platform Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Caleo Platform Engineer/Developer to join our engineering team and help build, scale, and support our cloud-native SaaS platform. This role operates at the intersection of

AWS serverless architecture, cloud security, distributed systems, modern API development, and

AI-assisted software engineering.

As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the operational backbone of the Caleo platform. You will work closely with our Lead Platform Architect and a small, highly collaborative leadership team to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable AWS serverless applications.
• Develop secure APIs and GraphQL services supporting the Caleo platform.
• Implement event-driven workflows and distributed system integrations.
• Maintain enterprise-grade authentication, authorization, and identity management.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Monitor platform health through observability tools and proactive diagnostics.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software delivery while ensuring security and code quality.
• Collaborate with Product, UI/UX, Security, and Customer Success teams to deliver high-quality platform enhancements.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and operational procedures.
• Support onboarding, internal tooling, and engineering enablement initiatives.

AWS Serverless Architecture

Strong experience designing, deploying, and supporting serverless cloud applications using:

• Amazon API Gateway
• AWS Lambda
• Amazon Cognito
• Amazon SQS
• Amazon EventBridge
• AWS Pinpoint
• Amazon SES

Experience with:

• Event-driven architectures
• API security and authorization
• Asynchronous messaging
• Infrastructure optimization

Identity & Security

Experience implementing enterprise authentication and security including:

• SAML 2.0 Single Sign-On (SSO)
• Amazon Cognito User Pools
• JWT authentication and authorization
• Cognito Authorizers
• SSL/TLS encryption
• Secure API design
• Zero Trust security principles
• VPC Link configuration
• Multi-tenant security isolation

Data Engineering

Hands-on experience with:

• MongoDB Atlas
• Schema design
• Query optimization
• Performance tuning
• Indexing strategies
• Multi-tenant database architecture
• Encryption at rest
• Secure data access patterns

Application Development

Strong software engineering experience with:

• Node.js and/or Python
• GraphQL APIs and resolvers
• RESTful API design
• API contract management

• Idempotent service development

Observability & Reliability

Experience monitoring and supporting production systems using:

• Amazon CloudWatch
• Logging and metrics
• Dashboards and alarms
• Distributed tracing
• Incident response
• Performance optimization
• Platform reliability engineering

AI-Assisted Software Development

Engineers at Caleo are expected to be proficient with modern AI development tools such as Claude Code and to incorporate them into their daily workflow for software design, implementation, debugging, testing, documentation, and code review. Successful candidates understand both the strengths and limitations of AI and can validate AI-generated code for security, performance, and maintainability.

Experience using modern AI development tools including:
