The impact you’ll make
As an Automation Design Engineer at LAM, you will design, develop, modify, and integrate automation and robotics solutions and create new electromechanical concepts for new product lines. You will be responsible for the design, engineering, and testing of components, as well as the creation of test and validation plans for assemblies and complete machines. In addition, you will contribute to the improvement of manufacturing, processing, and production equipment.
What You’ll Do
- Design (3D modeling and functional descriptions) and analyze mechanical and mechatronic systems, including motion control
- Participate in all phases of automation development: requirements definition, design/analysis, testing, integration, and transition to volume production
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, controls engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing
- Develop control systems in close cooperation with software teams
- Conduct feasibility studies, prototype development, and failure analysis using methodologies such as 5-Why and 8D, while characterizing and validating design performance
- Prepare reports and technical presentations to clearly communicate design intent, evaluation, and validation to diverse audiences during design reviews
- Create documentation according to LAM standards and support product lifecycle management activities
- HTL diploma, Bachelor's degree, or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field, with at least 5 years of professional experience
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and mechatronic fundamentals, motion control systems, and CAD tools (e.g., Solid Edge, Siemens NX, or similar)
- Hands-on experience in product development and testing combined with a solid engineering background
- Experience in the semiconductor industry
- Familiarity with SEMI standards
- Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies while managing schedules and multiple priorities
- Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB or Python

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
