Lunar Mobility Software Engineer (Space)
Indexed description
We are responsible for planning and developing mobility that operates on the lunar surface in preparation for the coming New Space era. Our organization works to design and develop cutting-edge technologies for this unprecedented frontier.
We look forward to receiving applications from those who share our curiosity about space and are eager to explore this frontier alongside our rapidly growing team.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will consult on and design communication protocols between lunar exploration mobility and ground stations, and develop ground station software to control the mobility. Additionally, you will build an onboard software simulator that recreates the lunar exploration environment to verify software functionality and performance, as well as validate VSLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) capabilities for autonomous driving.
■ Ground Station Software Development for Lunar Mobility Control
- Defining requirements, designing architecture, and developing ground station software for lunar mobility control
- Developing ground station software to control lunar mobility
- Writing and verifying requirements for the lunar mobility ground station software
- Designing the architecture, conducting code reviews, and managing source code for the ground station software
- Building onboard SW simulators based on lunar environment conditions, configuring HIL/SIL verification environments, and conducting automated testing
- Building a simulation environment replicating lunar conditions (lunar surface terrain, gravity, lighting conditions, etc.)
- Developing HIL/SIL (Hardware/Software-in-the-Loop) simulators for lunar mobility onboard software (OBC, sensor drivers, communication middleware, etc.)
- Building and verifying an integrated simulation environment between the ground station and mobility
- Designing scenarios and configuring automated test environments to verify onboard SW functionality and performance
- Designing and iteratively verifying VSLAM algorithms for autonomous driving on the lunar surface in integration with the onboard SW simulator
- Designing VSLAM algorithms tailored for the lunar surface environment (GPS-denied, low-light, and dusty conditions)
- Designing Camera/IMU-based Visual-Inertial Odometry (VIO)
- Generating 3D maps of the lunar surface and designing loop closures
- Iteratively verifying and optimizing the performance of VSLAM algorithms using Isaac Sim / OmniLRS simulator environments
- Conducting integrated verification of autonomous driving path planning algorithms and VSLAM linked with the simulator
- Negotiating and designing communication protocols between the lunar mobility and ground station, and managing interfaces
